Hi all, I spoke to sky yesterday about this problem. I'm on Sky Connect! The first person I spoke to aggreed with me that the reason I am probably having trouble signing onto PSN is due the the Traffic Management system which Sky implemented Thursday last week. When I said that I will probably be changing ISP he said he would probably do the same if he was having the same problem. He went on to say that they are getting alot of calls about this problem and they are getting a new tool soon that they can use to diagnose this problem. Don't know when this new tool will be available to them. I was then put though the cancellation department where the next man I spoke to hadn't known there were any changes to Sky Connect. I will be getting my MAC code soon and will give Sky 30 days to see if there are any improvements, if not I'm changing ISP. The only ISP with LLU at my exchange is Orange. Is it worth me changing to them? I was also considering the Post Office as reading some reviews they seemed quite good. Also reading the Post Office terms and conditions if you are using alot of bandwidth they write to you first to warn you instead of just slowing your connection down without saying. Another ISP I was considering is Aquiss as they are a service dedicated for gamers where they have an Anti Packet Loss System to limit on packet loss which makes onling gaming more stable. Who should I change to: Orange, Post Office or Aquiss? Thanks.

I assume (I am not a great expert on ISP's etc) if you have a BT line then you might face the same issues as you do with Sky with these knew ISP's.....would BT not be a good option to go with ? Message Edited by Wattie01 on 24-06-2009 02:30 PM Message Edited by Wattie01 on 24-06-2009 02:31 PM

Hi all. The fair usage policy was a possible explanation I had considered. However, if that were the case surely we'd all have had time to rack up bandwidth usage before any of us had our connections throttled. The fact we all went down at exactly the same time (give or take a few hours) means, unfortunately, I don't think this is part of fair usage. The new, vastly reduced, monthly cap on Sky Connect (which was introduced without ANY of us being informed remember) is a deliberate attempt to quell "heavy users" as is the constant monitoring to discourage use of P2P applications.
To anyone on an LLU exchange I say go now. You will no longer be using BT equipment and therfore should not be subject to any bandwidth restrictions at all (not that I'm an expert, that's just what I think).
As for OFCOM and Watchdog, I'd love to be proved wrong, but I think the only thing we can raise is the reduced monthly cap. Particularly if you're still under contract - Sky are no longer providing the service any of us signed up to. And the 40gig cap is still mentioned on the Sky website!
I've decided to give it til the weekend. Mainly because I can't be bothered phoning call centres in the middle of the week. And also to see if this week was a levelling off period before a fair usage policy actually is introduced.
Incidentally, there are now well over 60 different Sky Connect subscribers who have posted on this thread. Sony fault? Concidence? Don't think so!
To the people who've thanked me for starting this thread, I say "you're welcome". However, all I did was start it-I'm sure if I hadn't, someone else would have. There are many other people who have done a hell of a lot of legwork. It's not over yet but as I said last night in a PM to Alize I think this proved there is more to internet forums that spammers, flamers and trolls! Hopefully, between us, we can find a solution that works for us all. Keep up the good work!

Have faith The problem has been spotted and is being worked on now, sky have just said...
Our Sky Broadband Connect network management system mistakenly classified Playstation 3 traffic (PSN) in a way which meant that those customers using their consoles to access the internet may have had their speeds reduced, as per our public network management policy. This was a mistake and resulted from a systems error, for which we apologise. Our team is working on fixing this as a matter of priority. Wed like to clarify that for Sky Broadband Connect, traffic management only applies to certain forms of peer-to-peer download activity. There are no restrictions in place for applications such as web browsing, email, video and audio streaming, instant messaging and VOIP during peak times. And we do not put restrictions on our network outside of peak times. There are no restrictions whatsoever for those customers who have Sky Broadband Base, Mid or Max.

I have spoken to somebody at sky who has confirmed the error has been spotted and supposedly fixed. Keep my fingers crossed on this one and see if its true or not.
