Re: Most frustrating (action/adventure) game ever

[ Edited ]

Back to the Jak 2 topic....

I have just found another thing to moan about with this game. Take note because this problem can stop you from completing the game! In one of the last missions ("Escort Sig Under Port") if you run out of ammunition you cannot complete the mission because there are some revolving platforms that you can jump on only after shooting them. Every time you fail to complete the level the game autosaves and the ammunition is reduced so if you start with little ammunition and fail several times (which is unavoidable) you might ended up stuck in the level.

There are no ammunition boxes in the level and enemies do not drop ammunition. There isn't even any way to abandon the mission and collect more ammunition!

I had to load a different save (luckily I had a different save that was only a couple of missions behind)....

So before you start the "Find Sig Under Port"/"Escort Sig Under Port" double mission make sure you are fully loaded, save a couple of times and reload a good save if you see you are getting short of ammo.

Seriously this is so ridiculous that I can't even comment. I have never seen a game that puts you in situation where you actually need to restart the whole game because there is no way to complete a level. The people at Naughty Dog who made these decisions are either incompent or sadistic. As I already said in this thread Naughty Dog are in my blacklist now. No more Uncharted or InFamous games for me.

Re: Most frustrating (action/adventure) game ever

Scrap "infamous" from my last sentence... Obviously not a Naughty Dog game....

LOL way to cut off your nose to spite your face...

We you can make several games of that scope with zero problems in whilst maintaining a business bouyant enough to employ however many team members it takes, then you can take the moral high ground :smileytongue:

What a silly answer. I am a customer, not a game developer and I don't need to be, to express my feelings that this game is sadistic in the way it treats the gamer (i.e. the Naughty Dog customer).

If they wanted to make an extremely frustrating game then at least they should have used a difficulty setting. If I buy a game I want to be able to play it... simples! (and you see from my gamer tag that I have been able to play a few games to completion)

Besides, looking for a second at the issue from a developer point of view, having a level where technically you find yourself stuck with no chance of progression is the most serious design bug you can have in a game.

I will admit Jak 2 is frustrating but not buying any more naughty dog games is stupid. They've learnt from there mistakes and even in Jak 3 the differculty is a lot easier.

Its not like you're going to run into the same problems in naughty dogs recent releases.

But they are still making money from this flawed game though. Once they decided to re-issue the game for the PS3 at least they should have corrected the bugs that stop people from playing. If you search the Jak 2 walkthroughs on youtube there are people who commented years ago about being stuck in this level without ammunition. They only needed to reset the ammo counter or put an ammonition box in the level.

Re: Most frustrating (action/adventure) game ever

I appreciate it's a design flaw and shouldn't occur, but as a game player you should know that games frequently have problems. I have persisted with games with much worse problems. Try playing the Syndicate FPS game for instance...

But throwing your toys out of the pram and saying you're never buying another Naughty Dog game is pretty immature and achieves nothing. Do you expect them to say "oh andyrome64 is never buying another game from us, despite the fact that our publisher gets all the money, so we better put it through an extra round of QA"?

Especially as ND make some damn fine games... And The Last of Us looks damnably intriguing.

But that's your choice as a consumer :smileywink:

Re: Most frustrating (action/adventure) game ever

Don't forget... Naughty Dog aren't the developer of the HD Collection... so while I'm sure they'll get royalties or something, the cut will be slimmer than the original release... Mass Media made this version, and SCEA published it.. ND in fact haven't been involved in the Jak games since 2005.. other companies have handled the newer games of the series..

Believe it or not, Jak II did get 10/10 scores back in the day, and was praised for bringing something new to the platformer table (unlike Ratchet 2 and 3) ... I thought it was sadistic in parts back then, and I still think so now... but Naughty Dog did clearly take on feedback back in the day, and released a friendlier Jak 3...

I dunno, maybe they were compensating for making Jak and Daxter too easy.... Much like Capcom with Devil May Cry... DMC1 criticised for being too hard, DMC2 IS too easy, DMC3 was too hard, DMC3SE was fairer, DMC4 was probably about right, yet criticised for being too easy again..

Remember when I said I'd kill u last?? .... I LIIIIED!!

An update for the record...

I finished Jak 2 and now in a matter of days I have also finished Jak 3 (apart from the orb hunting part) and I guess the feedback I gave on Jak 2 must have been the same when the game came out on PS2.

They made Jak 3 so much easier that I hardly had to play any mission more than once or twice. They introduced checkpoints where they weren't even necessary. You can even replenish your health during the final boss fight so it is almost harder to lose it than to win it! LOL. The only glimple of frustration was the last mission on the kart before the final boss battle.

All in all this HD collection was quite disappointing with three games developed without any consistency, moving from platforming to shooting with completely different levels of difficulty.
