Re: New Spiderman game is awesome

Shoot him in the face, with itching powder I borrowed from Kermit.

You do have a point though. I personally can't think of any epic ways for a boss fight, as I mostly hate boss fights in games anyway. They always feel so annoying & forced.

Comic book wise, it's usually just an epic long fight like you'd fight anyone. But in the cartoons & games, its always the Wait for him to charge Dodge at the last second , Let him hit the wall and attack while he is dazed. At least with Juggernaut, you have a chance to remove his helmet, but you can't get Rhino down to his speedos.

I really think he should be removed from the next game. He's hardly even used in the comics either, he just looks cool.

I'd rather a long chase through the city, with maybe the help of Shield in trapping him in a container, or like in the comics, throwing an oil tanker at him..Anything is better than what's been done so far in the history of Rhino boss fights.

Re: New Spiderman game is awesome

Well, i lent it off my friend, and completed the story in one play through (admittingly, it was one 6hour playthrough...)

Opinions on the game:
Story-line wise, watch the film first. This is an epilogue to the film, so if you havent seen it, it will reveal who lives and who dies. As for the rest of the story, it seems very similar to Activisions other free-roamer, Prototype (in my opinion, P1 as i havent played P2). An experiment with cross-species goes mental when Peter Parker is in the labs, as they respond to his blood as he is also technically a cross-species himself. You then face the rest of the game saving the citizens of NY from cross-specie attacks, with hours/days and the infected count (reminiscent of Prototype) relayed each time you visit your Aunt Mays friend "Stan's" apartment. Oscorp send out robots to get rid of the cross-species, which in turn hunt you. So, you face a crazy scientist, cross-specie monsters (Rhino) and killer-robots.

Gameplay:
Usual free-roaming Spidey here. Swinging across NY, fight the bad guys. This game takes place largely indoors or in the sewers, so your majestic swinging abilities are limited. All moves feel very automated. Unlike other 3rd person action games, where buttons are assigned light, medium and heavy attacks, all attacks are assigned to "Square". "Triangle" is then dodge when your spidey-sense alerts you, and "O" is for web-based attacks. Whilst the moves do look flashy, your left feeling rather let down that you dont control them, but the computer decides what move it will show you. Even web-swinging is very automated. In previous games, it was something like: R2 to swing, X to speed up the swing, and releasing R2 would let go, pressing it again releases another web. In this, its just hold R2, with alot of the time the game waiting until you are feet from the ground before swinging again... which is rather annoying if you want to climb high, because you have to Web Rush (R1 - slow motion) to navigate higher. Releasing R2 and pressing it again, in the hope of maintaining momentum, does sometimes work, but again, the game automates it alot of the time, waiting until the last second. Powers can be upgraded, but the main ones that really help are the combo-finishers, with after 12 (then 10, 8 and finally 6 once fully upgraded), your attacks become faster, stronger, and you can then initiate a signature move... normally just webbing the bad guys to a wall or floor.

Length of the game:
I finished the story in one sitting of about 6hours. I have clocked just over 10 hours on the game so far, and that is completing the story and completing all side-missions (minus the collectibles). I never do side-missions in games, but seeing as I had finished in rather quickly, i thought i should give it a bash seeing as my mate doesnt want it back just yet. Side missions are the usual - fight bad guys, car chases, races across the city, photo taking missions, and some where you have to keep the camera centred on spiderman as he swings to a pre-defined destination. There are only 10 races and "camera centred" missions, with about 40 "infected saving" characters, about 15 assylum returning mission, 10 car chases, and 10 police helping missions... not much really, but it kept me going. There are 700 comic book pages to be found, as well as audio files, comic books, tech upgrades in the actual missions, so enough to keep going for the die-hard fan and trophy-hoarder, but for the average joe, they wouldnt really care to be honest.

Overall:
7/10. Decent game, nice graphics (though indoor environments do get quite similar and bland, and repetitive enemy character models). Fun to play, but a little too automated for my liking. I prefer more of a challenge, i finished this on medium (hero) difficulty no problems, in fact i didnt even die.

Value: £25-ish
I wouldnt have paid £40 for this game, but around the £25 mark seems fair.

Sorry for the long post, just thought it may help those on the fence a little
