Although on a related note if a score is out of ten then 4.5 should be simply just below average and not bad? I'm pretty fed up with score related reviews, everything that scores 75% is deemed terrible which makes no sense at all.

It's totally subjective, and also hugely depends on the reviewer.

IMO if it gets 5+ I'll see what the style of game is and what the negatives mentioned in the review are. I'll also be more inclined to read a lot of other reviews to get a better picture.

But if it's a game I really want, and the review score is high, all good.

Take Stormrise for example - I bought it despite a huge critical panning, and I'm kind of having fun with it. It has design issues that make it annoying at times, but I got it cheap and will get my money's worth. However it got 49.64% over 25 reviews on Game Rankings.

Bottom line: what's good for the goose isn't necessarily good for the gander :smileyhappy:

Re: Silent Hill: Downpour

Agreed. And to be honest now being at SCEE it is much easier for me to try the games out first with zero cost which is obviously very very helpful.

Anyhow...

Re: Silent Hill: Downpour

[ Edited ]

I'm a bit fed up with letting reviewers influence my decision when buying games. Everyone has a different opinion and I have been mislead by game reviews in the past. Gamespot have given it 7.5 which is classified as good so there is already a significant difference to IGN's "bad" rating. I have long been awaiting a good creepy horror game and this looks like something that I will enjoy. The main factors that ruin a game for me are technical problems due to poor quality control.

I will approach this game with optimism in the hope that it will take me on a memorable and enjoyable journey. Reviewers should be careful about loosing their credibility due to biased and unfair reviews.

Re: Silent Hill: Downpour

Sadly many people now days will see that 7.5 and decide that means its a bad game. Madness really.

I'm loving it, it's a bit more Alan wake than silent hill but still very good, it as a big issue for me tho, I can't get the game running in 3d???? The options greyed out...

Re: Silent Hill: Downpour

I like it, it's not very scary but games never scare me anyway. Graphics in my opinion are very crisp and clean. I'd say homecoming is more silent hill than this tho. Combat is Easter in downpour, story is great but it is a bit to easy to get totally lost.

If you like silent hill games and dont mind the Alan wake touch you'll love it
