Skyrim Glitch - Alduin's Wall Quest

There is a problem in this game that makes it impossible to continue the main storyline quests. If you're just exploring the world and come across a place called Karthspire, do not solve any of the puzzles within. If you do, a main story quest will become impossible to complete.

Spoiler
If you've already solved these puzzles before doing the quest, Esbern and Delphine will not follow you across the first drawbridge. You can glitch them up to Sky Haven Temple and Esbern will help you to open the door, but once you go into the temple, both Esbern and Delphine will go back to the first drawbridge again instead of following you in. If Esbern can't tell you about Alduin's Wall, it cannot move you on to the next quest.

Unfortunately, I have no saved games that date from before I solved the puzzles in Karthspire, so my only option (barring a fix from Bethesda, about as likely as blood from a stone) is to start the game again from the very beginning. I have to say farewell to my level 41 Breton Mage and start again from scratch.

Needless to say, I am beyond angry with Bethesda right now. The main storyline quests should never glitch out like this.

Yes, I did try... can't be done. The pillars won't turn. According to Google, this is a glitch that a lot of people have run into, and nobody has yet found a solution. Only the PC gamers can get past it, as they can use the command console and just skip to the next quest.

I happen to enjoy exploring. I did a lot of it in Oblivion, and the same in Skyrim. I don't see myself playing Skyrim again for some time, unless Bethesda come up with a fix. I don't want to lose several weeks worth of effort because they can't do quality assurance.

Re: Skyrim Glitch - Alduin's Wall Quest

Yeah this seems to be one of the main advantages of having this on the PC. I have managed to fix quite a few bugs and glitches myself (with the help of youtube and the like) rather than waiting for Bethesda to fix them :smileytongue: There was another glitch involving Esbern, which prevented you from even meeting him! Obviously whoever coded that particular character wasnt paying much attention as most of the gliches that affect the main storyline quests involve him.
