The series was not helped by it moving developers per episode.
HD upscale Vs HD remake is another topic thats allready been done to death.
HD remake should require payment because they did do actual work.
HD upscale requires less work and should require alot less cost to the user as they only have to Bug test.
You had a choice Pay extra for the FAT PS3 and get bored of the Bad emulator for PS2 games or Buy a Slim and pay for games that run But are bad remakes or what you should have done, don't sell your PS2 in the first place.
Silent hill HD is a bad remake thats all.
The Next remake/upscale is DMC HD it has not been done as bad, but thats a Capcom title and they have had plently of experience doing upscales/remakes, to much upscaling only on titles realy.
YouTube PS3 companion app HD video, NA 1.04/EU 1.00 720p HD Video

Short answer:
It is pretty awful for those actually expecting a visually enhanced version, they look and run worse than they did on the PS2.
Long answer:
They made plenty of decisions that compromised the game's art direction, like messing with the fog effect (which, like a lot of the monster and environment design, has some symbolic relevance in the game) and removing the grain filter (which would make the image underneath look more clear, but the visuals weren't actually improved, just forcefully upscaled a bit making them look poor in some places and hideous in others). The developer that ported them clearly didn't have access to any of the original textures, character models, any of the development files at all probably, and they didn't do a good job with what they had.
Besides the visuals though they also got the new voice talent in, and although they did a good, big budget, professional job of it it didn't match the original intended artistic style found in the original. Jeremy Blaustein, the best translation/localization specialist in gaming, worked on SH2 & 3 and he also directed the voice overs, along with Team Silent they worked on creating a subtely off-the-wall performance to go with the dreamy, fog filled, unconscious kind of weird reality the game is set in. Konami basically must've listened to the voices again and thought, "these are awful, let's replace them with new, big name VAs, our fans will love that."
And finally, visuals and audio aside, technically these ports run worse than the originals did a decade ago on the inferior hardware of the PS2. They're very buggy, in fact it's full of glitches. there are numerous visual problems that are common and frequent, issues with the playable character jerking around, issues with the audio not syncing correctly, the framerate drops significantly at times and the game slows down so much it becomes pretty unplayable, none of these problems were in the very polished PS2 releases. I've heard a lot of people are having controller issues too. Simply put the PS2 versions are about eight billion gazillion times more worthy of your time ![]()
