Ik heb er wat over opgezocht.
The EU has passed a law requiring internet users' consent before cookies can be placed on their machines. The development could have huge implications for the online advertising industry, much of which uses cookies for functions such as ad targeting and audience segmentation.

The amended directive will now state that national governments must "ensure that the storing of information, or the gaining of access to information already stored, in the terminal equipment of a subscriber or user is only allowed on condition that the subscriber or user concerned has given his/her consent, having been provided with clear and comprehensive information."
Cookies without user consent would only be allowed when they are "strictly necessary" to provide a service "explicitly requested" by the user such as storing shopping cart information on e-commerce sites, for example.

M.a.w. De webtrends cookies die gezet worden door het lithium domein (de web app waarop dit forum draait) worden als niet essentieel beschouwd en zijn als zodanig onderhevig aan de nieuwe wetgeving. Het is een nogal achterlijke wetgeving... maar goed boetes tot maximaal €500.000 doen mij wel harder rennen 
(Met dank aan de nederlandse regering, die zelf ook nog voor geen zak voldoet). xD
