Re: GDC Demo opportunities

Thanks for the update, looking forward to seeing the presentation.  I'm starting to wonder about content guidelines and if we'll be able to publish GPL software with PS Suite.  Oh, and will our games need ESRB ratings?

Good update. Still short on deadlines, though.

 

Also, the revenue sharing scheme is not clearly detailed.

 

And, $99 is a little high when comparing the grade of the tools provided by Apple and the PSS SDK.

Although the PSS SDK has a lot more to offer in terms of game development support, it's fairly raw and lacks integration and polish.

 

But, obviously, $99 is not high in absolute terms.

 

At least, there is light at the end of the tunnel. Maybe I'll resume developing that game, even though I have no idea when it could actually go on sale.

$99 is pretty industry standard at this point. same price for Apple, MS, and Google for their respective phone marketplaces

After the 1.0 SDK release, is that $99 fee required just to download the tools, or is it like XNA where the tools are free but the fee allows you to submit games?

The roadmap still leaves a lot to be desired. What are the plans for Physics2D? What's planned for .98 besides Vita support?

Actually, Google only charges $25 dolars :smileyhappy:

 

But anyway, I think it's a good price! I saw the Vita for the first time yesterday and It's amazing :smileyhappy:

Well charging 100 bucks a year is realistic considering they want to be able to keep submit times feasible. However I hope Sony will do us justice and change their revenue share plan. I do not like the idea of Sony being able to set the retail value of the game. It should be a fixed percentage 5 % cheaper then the competition.

PS Suite will not compete with Steam if its not a more attractive platform to develop on. Sony will have to compromise on this or else suffer XBLIA's fate.

Sony has like the most awesome tech minds. For instance they support open source, OIN, and Linux. They create awesome tools like PS Suite, and they make really powerful, attractive consoles.

But then you get marketing Sony who always messes things up. For instance canning OtherOS because IBM didnt like the idea of PS3 Cluster Servers. Sony BGM rootkit scandal. Sony initial support for SOPA.

You lose customer loyalty, especially developer loyalty when you do that kind of thing. If Sony wants to get a good understanding of how to make it ahead, look at what fans want. Sacrifice a nickle to make a steady inflow of dimes. Rather then trying to collect a quarter now.
