You know, if the 50 or so games I have downloaded from the PS store don't work on the PS4 I will not be pleased.

You would hope considering we now have PS1 and PS2 Classics downloadable on PS3, and PS1 Classics and PSP games downloadable on Vita, that downloaded PS1, 2 and 3 games will work on the next console..

Seeing as they are fairly restrictive in that only 'you' can download them, and you can't resale them like physical versions... it would seem like commercial suicide if they went the route of the Digital Comic Store and stayed accessible to PS3 only, only for support to be dropped later on..

I wouldn't be suprised if physical discs won't work, if all the early account locking restriction rumours come true though... I think eventually both major players will really push downloaded games... The signs are there now with PS3, Vita and Xbox 360..

The Vita has been a bit of a mixed test. I think they learnt after the Go not to go fully download, but never manufactured cheap high capacity storage for the Vita... but now with the likes of cross-buy and PSP/PS1 compatibility I think they really do want gamers to go the download route... Mind you, when you look at the 'budget' 12GB PS3 and 4GB 360, neither of which are good for downloaded games at all, maybe that trend will continue for another generation... an entry level 20GB PS4 primarily for bluray, and a more expensive 500GB PS4 for downloading...

Well I signed up for whatever it is I signed up for???

[First to know Sony's new headquarters will be a old shipping container on the outskirts of Soweto ,since they have sold off the New York & Tokyo HQ's ].

Sony have repeatedly said NO PS4 will be announced, as it always had a projected 10 year life span.

Plus the cost of tooling up for a PS4 and the current economic climate.

So I'm not expecting any news there.

January's CES was all about 4k TV's from Sony ..... well a small 4k Sony game might be on the cards as a downloadable game, it would need to be a short game as the file size would still be massive.

I don't know if the PS3 can upscale to 4K with a system update though, it would be really pushing it I think.

Any native 4k discs would need to be different [larger capacity] for native 4k content, and I doubt the PS3 would be able to read them, probably a different wavelength laser would be needed to read the discs, so that would rule out that.

I'm sort of suspecting Sony is going to announce some sort of second paid for PSN, more CLOUD based gaming and storage.

Possibly even a Virtual PS3 like program that you can download onto a PC [subject to system requirements], tied in with a updated MEDIA GO!

The security could be tied in to the PC's motherboard ID [Not a component that is usually replaced/updated], like Windows does

Then Sony would have it's own STEAM like PSN, without having to manufacture a console.

Who knows, it could just be nothing more than a new logo design.

It's a MOVE controller software update that allows active response/control  with 3D compatible games .

Basically this would need a major rewrite of the MOVE's "Tracking Detection" software, no mean feat, believe me.

If they have pulled it off, this could be big.

Especially for 3D FPS ....which Unfortunately was pretty much all that was show as "Up Coming" at the last E3. :No-no:

Since Studio Liverpool went down  :Frown::No-no::Evil: I can see no RACING titles heading our way.

Anyway, hence the Lightning around the PS logo, a la Harry Potter ....book of spells tie in anybody?

As in Sony's wand is getting a major update.

I suppose it's [Move Controller] the only thing that hasn't had budget cuts to it's progress.

A bit of a no brainer when you deduce what's been happening in gaming.

It's a possibility !!

Copy and paste job from Wiki......

Although the Blu-ray Disc specification has been finalized, engineers continue to work on advancing the technology. By 2005, quad-layer (128 GB) discs had been demonstrated on a drive with modified optics[60] and standard unaltered optics.[61] Hitachi stated that such a disc could be used to store 7 hours of 32 Mbit/s video (HDTV) or 3 hours and 30 minutes of 64 Mbit/s video (Cinema 4K). In August 2006, TDK announced that they had created a working experimental Blu-ray Disc capable of holding 200 GB of data on a single side, using six 33 GB data layers.[62]

Also, behind closed doors at CES 2007, Ritek revealed that they had successfully developed a High Definition optical disc process that extends the disc capacity to ten layers, which increases the capacity of the discs to 250 GB. However, they noted that the major obstacle is that current read/write technology does not support the additional layers.[63]

JVC has developed a three-layer technology that allows putting both standard-definition DVD data and HD data on a BD/(standard) DVD combination. If successfully commercialized, this would enable the consumer to purchase a disc that can be played on DVD players and can also reveal its HD version when played on a BD player.[64] Japanese optical disc manufacturer Infinity announced the first "hybrid" Blu-ray Disc/(standard) DVD combo, to be released February 18, 2009. This disc set of the TV series "Code Blue" featured four hybrid discs containing a single Blu-ray Disc layer (25 GB) and two DVD layers (9 GB) on the same side of the disc.[65]

In January 2007, Hitachi showcased a 100 GB Blu-ray Disc, consisting of four layers containing 25 GB each.[66] Unlike TDK and Panasonic's 100 GB discs, they claim this disc is readable on standard Blu-ray Disc drives that are currently in circulation, and it is believed that a firmware update is the only requirement to make it readable to current players and drives.[67]

In December 2008, Pioneer Corporation unveiled a 400 GB Blu-ray Disc (containing 16 data layers, 25 GB each) that will be compatible with current players after a firmware update. Its planned launch is in the 2009–10 time frame for ROM and 2010–13 for rewritable discs. Ongoing development is underway to create a 1 TB Blu-ray Disc as soon as 2013.[68]

At CES 2009, Panasonic unveiled the DMP-B15, the first portable Blu-ray Disc player, and Sharp introduced the LC-BD60U and LC-BD80U series, the first LCD HDTVs with integrated Blu-ray Disc players. Sharp has also announced that they will sell HDTVs with integrated Blu-ray Disc recorders in the United States by the end of 2009. Set-top box recorders are not being sold in the U.S. due to fears of piracy. However, personal computers with Blu-ray recorder drives are available.

On January 1, 2010, Sony, in association with Panasonic, announced plans to increase the storage capacity on their Blu-ray Discs from 25 GB to 33.4 GB via a technology called i-MLSE (Maximum likelihood Sequence Estimation). The higher-capacity discs, according to Sony, will be readable on current Blu-ray Disc players with a firmware upgrade. No date has been set to include the increased space, although in 2010 Blu-ray.com reported that "it will likely happen sometime later this year."[69]

On July 20, 2010, the research team of Sony and Japanese Tohoku University announced the joint development of a blue-violet laser,[70] which will help in creating Blu-ray discs with a capacity of 1 TB using only two layers (and potentially more than 1 TB with additional layering). By comparison, the first blue laser was invented in 1996, with the first prototype discs coming four years later.

On January 14, 2013, Blu-ray Disc Association president Andy Parsons stated that a task force created three months ago is studying an extension to the Blu-ray Disc specification that would add support for 4K Ultra HD video.[71][72]

Well I really can't say how much better it will be if it's the PS4. I mean The PS3 is pretty much futuristic with its Blu-ray player. I hope it's like a "Kinect for PS3"

Maybe It turns out to be a PS3 portable or even better, a helmet where players can play through the 3D display inside it  *drools* OOOOOOOOOOOOOH that'll be awesome feature
