Sundance Festival -The Event

Hey all, our Italian Team Leader and one of our Spanish Moderators visited last weekends SundaceFilm Festival and have written up a piece on their experience there, so I though I would share it with you guys!

So let me hand you over W_sal.......

Hello everybody,

are chuffed to be back after the eventful two days coverage on the Sundance Festival, sponsored by Sony Entertainment Network sen_lockup.jpg

and these are the main highlight of the event:

After 1 hour spent "Lost in translation" trying to figure out where to go first we managed to get our passes for the day :smileyvery-happy:

Even the pillows were sponsored! We felt like VIP's!

Friday 27th

14:00 – Arriving at the exquisite INC Club inside the O2 Arena complex we found ourselves delighted by the company of Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, who you may as well recognise as Mr. Ekko in Lost, reading dialogue from his script of Farming (now officially confirmed for production) helped by his talented cast.  Among the talent presented, we were surprised to see one of the most talented actresses of our time: Minnie Driver. The reading was emotional and projected us to the harsh reality that this compelling story will bring to the screen.

Amazing experience.

17:00 – Right after we chilled a few minutes in the INC Club, we head straight to the panel hosted by prominent UK and US directors, named “Thinking independently – UK vs. US”. Claire Stewart,Sally El Hosaini, James Marsh, Gurinder Chadha (Team UK), John Cooper, So Yong Kim, Josh Radnor and Ry Russo- Young (Team America) discussed along the audience with an open Q&A afterwards. Issues of funding independent films from one side to the other were among the most discussed topics.

19:00

Filly Brown – We went to the screening room to this x min long independent feature, starred by upcoming talent Gina Rodriguez, co-directed by Michael Olmo and with original music by Reza Safinia. At the end we were pleased to have the company of all three in a small Q&A.

Saturday 28th

14:00 – Once again, escaping the gloomy rain that impregnated the huge marquee surrounding the O2 complex, we found ourselves attending “Cinema/Music Café’” with Terence Nance, director of An Oversimplification of her Beauty, and the talent from Filly Brown above. We had the chance to personally meet with Gina Rodriguez, whose energy was overwhelmingly contagious.

19:00 – Liberal Arts: Anybody know who Josh Radnor is? I bet mostly all of you recognize his face from the popular TV series How I met your Mother? Presenting his second feature, both to the world and in the same Sundance Festival, Radnor presented us with a modern tale of human relationships set up around post-university early thirties lifestyle.

The whole experience was very constructive and emotional. We got to have a real taste of what it is to work as an independent filmmaker. It does bring a lot of thought of how a dream can be succeeded with will, evading the traditional barriers.

See you next time for another exciting adventure!
