Re: System Software 4.20 is now available for the PlayStation 3

Find out what features are included in PS3 system software update 4.20.

An update to the PS3 system software was released on 20 June 2012. If you update your PS3 system, the system software version will be 4.20 and the following features will be updated. In order to download PS3 system software version 4.20, you will need a minimum 200MB of free space on either the PS3 Hard Disk Drive (System Update) or on removable storage media (PC Update).

Main features in system software update version 4.20

  • Settings

Under Settings > [Power Save Settings] > [System Auto-Off], you can now set the amount of time until the system automatically turns off for [Video/TV/Music/Photo] and for [Game/Other Features].

  • Games

Under Games > [Saved Data Utility (PS3™)], you can now select multiple saved data items, and then either delete or copy them as a group.

  • Wireless Stereo Headset

When the wireless stereo headset (CECHYA-0080) is connected, you can now adjust the sidetone level for microphone audio. Select [Sidetone] under Settings > [Accessory Settings] > [Audio Device Settings].

In addition, if you use the Wireless Stereo Headset to watch Blu‐ray Disc or DVD movies on your PS3 system, this system software update will also enable virtual surround sound functionality giving you a superior audio experience.

Other new or revised features in version 4.20

Settings

  • Under [Date and Time Settings] > [Time Zone], [Samoa Islands] has been changed to [American Samoa] and [Independent State of Samoa].

Other

  • The encryption key has been renewed for AACS, the copy protection system for Blu-ray Disc video content. If you see a message regarding encryption key renewal during playback of commercially available BD video software (BD-ROM), update the system software to the latest version. The encryption key will then be automatically renewed.

Re: System Software 4.20 is now available for the PlayStation 3

All seems to be fine here.

I noticed I no longer have the option via triangle button on xmb to eject discs, I instead have the option to 'remove disc', lol ok, so no change to function- just the wording, wonder why they changed it though? Not that it matters in particular, maybe 'remove' is a nicer word, I dunno:Lol:

Copying multiple saves should maybe have been there all along but I'm glad it's made it there eventually, nice feature.

Re: System Software 4.20 is now available for the PlayStation 3

I hate that it is now 'Remove disc'

It actually annoyed me a little when I sw it.

Why was it decided that decades of knowing that; removing a media type from the device that plays it, as 'Ejecting' it should be substituted for what some guy on the dev team thought might have been a good idea to change to say 'Remove disc'.

It wasn't.

'Remove disc' sounds far too aggressive for what it actually is.

For a second i couldn't actually find 'Eject' {obviously) so i came out of the menu then back in to it because I had obviously missed it only to find 'Remove disc', at which point I actually hesitated before pressing X.

My thoughts wen something liket:
Remove d... REMOVE?! the data from my system? just the disc?... guess I'll find out... Phew.

And subsiquently that instruction failed at that point.

I'm not object to change, I like change and we can only progress with it, but as a matter on familiarity and usability I'm not sure this should have been in the list of todo for the next update.

Thanks,

Re: System Software 4.20 is now available for the PlayStation 3

I updated to 4.20 and now I have no sound. The only change I have made to the system was the system update. System is connected via HDMI to a pioneer VSX-819H receiver. From there it is HDMI to the tv. Ps3 is about 3yrs old, I have never had any issues with it. I reset both the receiver and PS3 to factory in an attempt to do another initial hookup. The ps3 is still producing no sound. All other devices on the receiver are functioning normally. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
