Assassins Creed 2 item wheel problem

Everytime I pause the game or try losing it, the item wheel opens up and i can't get it to go away.  Is this a problem with the game, counsle or my controller?

the item wheel opens when holding down R2, maybe your controller's R2 is stuck (inwards)
