Modular sound (MOD, XM, IT ...)

Hi,

"Bgm is created from a mp3 file." stands the documentation.

Will there be a native support for modulated sound files or we will have to use third party libraries for modular song processing and sending the byte array into the sound core?

I would love to see this. On the XNA side of things, there's SharpMod, but I haven't really looked at the code to see how easy it would be to port.

If Sony were to integrate modular music playback in the library, I think they could attract a lot of "hip" indie developers. With games like VVVVVV and BIT.TRIP.RUNNER, there's a sort of resurgence in the Commodore 64 sound that goes well with the indie scene.

It also makes sense on mobile devices. You don't have *that* much storage, so why waste it with MP3s if you can use a 200kb S3M file instead?

We'll have to insist that this feature will come in the next updates sometime, like stated in the GDC talk. So raise your THUMBS in the sky to make a fine grained audio API it happen. ;-)

From reading other threads. There is a low leve Audio API in the works, so it looks like Team Audio will see a lot more cool stuff coming their way. :Lol:
