Hi.
I have made several comments about this problem, but just to back up these comments, look at this clip from 1.20, where the soldier is firing the machine gun, and note that the Tripod is NOT resting on anything.
In other words, he's holding it freehand but does have a front grip.
Here is the clip, http://www.youtube.com/watch?src_vid=w2JZgkLIzSg&a
Now in BF3 if you fire one of the larger machine guns like that it goes all over the *****ing place, and your lucky to hit Anything whatsoever after the first shot.
The recoil on a majority of the weapons after this latest patch is laudable, and this clip just goes to show how Bull***** it is.

Firstly, Compairing the real world handling of any weapon system to its game counterpart is a fruitless exercise. Its a game, Where balance must combine with attributes of a weapon to create gameplay.
Not only this, but your frame of reference in the video is not good enough to make any assessment of the accuracy of the fire.
The movement of the barrel away from the intended line of fire can change the direction the bullets end up going quite dramatically. Even very small looking changes, when viewed from the side, can actually have significant impact on the actually trajectory. Because they are not small changes actually.
The only way to convey the difficulty of accurate direct fire is to cause the recoil we see in games, Because a large part of the real world effects of recoil and muzzle rise play no part in our in game experience. In the real world, the barrel and the sights change alignment, your body moves, you head and so your eyes move, all creating a very large effect overall. In a game, all that changes really is where your crosshairs point.

I watched it and what I saw was a Marine being pushed back by the recoil from the weapon.
Don't compare real life to a game. In a game LMGs have to have down sides on, in real life its weight which doesn't really get represented in game as your character doesn't show signs of fatigue despite carrying around 20kgs in weight then if they are engineers with a Javelin make that closer to 50kgs. Then there is the larger caliber ammo LMGs use. With the exception of the G3A3 and SCAR-H all the assault rifles and carbines in Bf3 use intermediate rifle cartridges the most common being NATO 5.56 x 45 mm.
The LMGs except the M27,RPK and M249 (as featured in the video) use full power rifle cartridges like the NATO 7.62x51mm. There is a reason assault rifles (The G3A3 and SCAR-H are not assault rifles but battle rifles) use smaller caliber rounds and that is the recoil from the 7.62mm and its Russian and counterpart.
Sorry Cloud ![]()
On the left is the NATO 7.62mm the middle is the NATO 5.56mm and then a 9mm Para bellum
![]()
If you think you could fire the cartridge on the left the same as the one in the centre then feel free to prove me wrong (and all NATO member countries, and Russia (including the former USSR) and China
) Then again what do I know, I'm only in the British Army ![]()

That's because you're usually looking the wrong way![]()
Lol, now that is kick.
Agree with everyone else, there is movement on the gun in the clip and unless you're looking down the sights then you can't really see how that effects the bullet trajectory.
I do agree however that some guns do kick like a mule, but in some cases a couple of unlocks and learning how to effectively fire that gun turns it into a very effective killing machine.
Sorry to bring it up again but the AS VAL appears to be crap at the start. After a couple of unlocks and time using the gun I agree with LSD, it is a beast of a gun. I've got almost 500 kills with it now and I'm still getting better with it.
