Re: BF3 - Order or Cancel

So a quick. .actually long review, with a summary at the top: It is good actually. not much of.. if any of a major improvement since BFBC2. But gun play is a lot tighter, and less clunky.

It has almost got a pick up and play attachement - thats a too strong a phrase to use defineltly. Perhaps easier to pick up, but hard to master. Its doesn't 'feel' no less either, each weapon feels different which is one of the BC2 best points. Something which MW2 lost since 1.  It now has that gun play that caters for the cod players, without losing anything of what Battlefield offers,  - but there is still a clear distinction between the two games - which is great really.

Its not going to change peoples mind however. I think people who play COD, will be drawn to this as another shooter, thats looks aces, play it for a couple of weeks, and probably go back to COD afterthat in the long run.

The graphics are messy though. It has moments of brilliance. I was sat up in the highrise on the last MCOM, having a duel with someone prone behind the fountain, it look glorious. Compare that to the first spawn area.

The level isn't too bad, it offers enough just, and with the tighter controls, the metro bit, is alot less shocking than it would have been. There are various routes to the first M COM that i like. Me and a squadie done the whole going through the pool bit, it was kinda of cool in a apocaylspe now kinda way.

Other cool moments; the glint of sights in the distance.
Suppression points - Probably the best inclusion thus far.

Campers aren't much of a issue thus far, i had one tucked in a corner in the metro. But people in bushes and that are fine. In real life you not going to sit in the open so i can take that.

The levelling up is a mess, i agree with some one further up, it be nice to have a load out page. and i was being bombarded with info i didn't have time to take in. In COD i did, its odd, despite it being no different. Also i guess its has a better summary screen.

Metro is actually a good olive branch out to COD in what to do for the future. It offers good gunplay, as well as clear objectives, Levels are a good size, containing you in one area, before moving you on to the next. I think maybe with a new engine on the next gen machine perhaps we see something akin to this.

I came into this quite skeptical. But for console owners, its basically BFC2. But with tighter controls. Its easy to feel a bit let down, especially with those amazing trailers, but this was never going to be a revolution in FPS. That ain't going to happen for a while i guess untill games like MAG ideas are fully realised. Get over that, and its a small improvement on BFC2.

I will be buying this now, and MW3.

Re: BF3 - Order or Cancel

I'm definitey ordering.

At first I wasn't over keen, but as I got setlled I began to enjoy it a lot more. The graphics are  a bit messy, but it is a beta and I am wondering if they've been compressed to knock down the download size?

Have met a fair amount of glitches though. One of them is going prone and ending up underneath the map, I think that's a well known one. On numerous occasions, I have been unable to sprint when I press the button and have to jump a bit until I can start again. I have also been unable to zoom in and there have been times where I haven't been able to jump. Also, I have killed someone in the train and I have been unable to pass like there was some invisible barrier caused by the dead body.

But I hope DICE iron out all of these before release. Mind you, this is only one map and I've met my fair share of glitches.

On the plus side, love the firing mechanics. Feels good.

Re: BF3 - Order or Cancel

I'm enjoying it because there's no typical Dice vehicle whoreage haha.

I'm guessing that's why they picked a map with no vehicles as a ton of people would immediately get annoyed with constant annoying overpowered air support and relentless respawning tanks driving up to your base haha.

Smart move by dice as I almost forgot about vehicles in battlefield games when playing the beta. Then I quickly remembered this map would he one of the only maps in the game where it's about actual aiming and gun skill :smileyhappy:

Re: BF3 - Order or Cancel

couldnt agree more cloudburst. the map is way too small for any viechles.  This beta is very much about showing the improved gun play to the COD crowd ( as well as finding glitches etc).  It works as well despite not being overally improved if anything from BFC2. Hopefully the COD = DLC, reskinned arguments will die down now. Its a limitation of the genre rather than the games.

Re: BF3 - Order or Cancel

Originally had BF3 pre-ordered but after playing the beta i was not that impressed, So i've gone and changed my pre order to Uncharted 3 as i enjoyed the uc3 beta more and it seems far more polished than the current state of bf3 atm.

Will probably end up buying the pc version of bf3 after xmas when it's had a few patches as that looks like the one to get.
