BF3 locking up PS3.

Hi.

My not verry old PS3 has started to freeze / lock up on me, and is forcing me to do a forced hard shutdown of my machiene.

What I want to know is a) does this damage the PS3 in any way. and b) Why is this happening?

on a side note, how come we cant watch youtube vids in full qualit, instead of a max 240p?

Re: BF3 locking up PS3.

It's something introduced in the latest patch, mine does it on the load-up screen and ingame occasionaly.

Can it harm the PS3? Yes it can, will it? Probably not. Just make sure the Hard disk light isn't flashing at the time you reboot it.

Re: BF3 locking up PS3.

I'm not sure it's got anything to do with the latest patch at all. This happens on loads of games. I've had it happen before the latest patch, but so far not after the latest patch.

I think it;s just the PS3 in general, fat or slim, it freezes some times. One thing not to do is pressing the PS button on the controller during any loading screen!

At least this is MY experience with the console, & this game. There's probably someone out there who's never had BF3 lock up/freeze on them.

Re: BF3 locking up PS3.

This has only happened to me in the past few days, and only on bf3, didn't happen on saints row or FIFA, also on load up screen or mid game, never whilst im in the menus

Re: BF3 locking up PS3.

Hi.

Same for me. Fine until latest up-date / patch or mixture of both.

Never happened before. Happens to me either during game load up, or between maps. Did not happen before, and does not happen with MW3, Homefront etc etc.

I'm not trying to blame anyone or anything, just find out why and how it can be stopped, but it seems to be a common thing among a lot of people and is growing so I am finding it difficult to put it down to a general console issue, or something that the PS3 does from time to time.

The general Internet improvement that they mentioned in the details for the 4.11 update, well, the only thing I have noticed is that I no longer keep getting the message about not enough memory to display a web page.

Thanks.

If by "forced hard shutdown" you mean flicking the power switch/pulling the power cable, then yes - that can damage, well not the machine itself, but the contents of the hard disk. Worse case you will corrupt your save file and render it useless. It may also cause problems for internal components - I don't know. But it can make an unhealthy sounding cracking noise sometimes.

When the PS3 locks up, you can and should always turn it off by holding the standby switch. It may work straight away, or your may have to stand there holding it for what feels like ages, but it will eventually go into stand by (possibly with a number of beeps). This allows it to finish any disk writes it was doing.
