Battlefield 3 DLC; Close Quarters, coming June 2012

So, a few weeks ago, I was invited to a preview event to try out the upcoming DLC for Battlefield 3! Close Quarters is a brand new 'territory capture' mode with a few differences.  The most noticable difference is that the maps are quite enclosed giving the mode a much more frantic feel as you just do not know who is going to be around the corner! Adding to that tension is the fact you cannot spawn from a captured flag meaning more often than not, you are dropped right into the action!

This DLC is the first part of 3 planned updated for Battlefield 3 this year with Battlefield 3: Armored Kill coming in the Autumn and Battlefield 3: End Game coming this winter.

Here is the breakdown from EA explaining more!

BATTLEFIELD 3: CLOSE QUARTERS

Battlefield 3: Close Quarters is a themed expansion pack bringing the team play of Battlefield 3 to tight indoor environments. The frantic close quarters infantry combat showcases the wide spectrum of battles that only Battlefield 3 can deliver, from huge open environments to intimate indoor gunplay. Battlefield 3: Close Quarters is amplified by unprecedented high definition destruction, new ways to play, added persistence, and new weapons including the ACW-R carbine, the M417 sniper rifle, the L86LSW machine gun and the M5K tactical machine pistol.

The HD Destruction in Battlefield 3: Close Quarters lets players riddle the environment with bullets, reducing entire locales to ruin. Everything from furniture to plaster can be shot to pieces, and players can see the result of the mayhem as rubble and broken pieces pile up on the floor. The tight level design and many opportunities for vertical gameplay create a highly competitive environment.

Battlefield 3: Close Quarters key features

  • Get plunged into frantic and relentless infantry combat on 4 new maps
  • HD Destruction lets you reduce entire locales to ruin
  • Complete 10 new Assignments and equip 5 unique dog tags
  • Earn 10 new weapons and bring them back to the base game including:

Re: Battlefield 3: Close Quarters DLC

[ Edited ]

Seems we were all wrong about some of the weapons

  • I got the SCAR-L wrong thought that would be the carbine variant
  • ACW-R thought that would be an assault rifle
  • MTAR 21 another AR though I did think it looked stubby compared to MW2 :smileyindifferent:
  • AUG thought that would be a carbine on the basis that I thought the MTAR and ACW-R would be assault rifles :smileysad:

Looks like I got something correct about the recon class though:smileyvery-happy: A fully automatic battle rifle to compete with the G3A3 and SCAR-H.

The HK M417 is like a modern day FN FAL (or HK G3), like I suggested the recons should get which is was FNs direct competition against the HKs G3 back in the day :smileyvery-happy:. Fast forward to now and FN and HK are against each other with the FN SCAR-H and HK M417..

In a nut shell the its a similar concept with both FN and HK. FN designed the SCAR in two calibers, called one H (heavy) and the other L (light). What HK did was redesign the M4A1 with 2 calibers  M416 using 5.56mm and M417 using 7.62mm (just for cloudy they replaced the firing mechanism of the M4 with the one from the G36  amongst other stuff)

In the game I'd expect the M417 to be closer to the G3A3 in performance* than to the SCAR-H. As SCAR-H in BF3 has had its barrel shortened making it easier to carry when operating in vehicles, so it loses some of its accuracy of range :smileysad:

*thats as long as its full auto

Edit: Mike I think they mean the MP5

Re: Battlefield 3: Close Quarters DLC

Said infantry only so definitely no vehicles on any maps, and 'can't spawn on a captured flag' sounds like a squad deathmatch hybrid of conquest with squad spawn only i'm guessing. Not sure about that, the team deathmatch mode might get played more unless this new flag mode is REALLY good for points / score per minute. IKEA furniture lol, :smileyvery-happy:

Good predictions about the recon weapons Mr I, does anyone know if they're automatic or not? please tell. Its time DICE moved aggressive recon forward and away from PDW's, a TUGs sensor on a small map like this will net a massive amount of motion sensor assists and in this squad focused gameplay having at least one recon will give you a definite edge.

Re: Battlefield 3: Close Quarters DLC

The DLC looks good and I love this game, but I get so ***** off when they use super elite PC settings to take the promo pictures, I mean, the game dosen't even look HALF as good as that on the consoles. Total lazyness!
