Hey all.

I have to be honest here. I am exceptionally confused with all this DMZ and port forwarding stuff, if your not used to it then it can be a real nightmare.

I did have a quick look into it, but, I am not on a static IP, I am on a dynamic one, meaning each time I boot the main PC up it is different.

I'm with BeThere Broadband, and I am on the 24MB Unlimited service, and yes, I do get the full load too, I have checked at different speed checking web sites, and at different times of the day/night too.

I use a Netgear DG834PN Router. My main PC is wired, the Laptop wireless, and the PS3 wireless, but the router is literally above the PS3 in the room above, and, I get 13.4MB average down load speed on the PS3.

I'm kind of reluctant to mess with the status quo if you get my meaning.

I have only lost connection with a game about a half a dozen times or so since release, but I put that down to them messing with the servers. Voice Comms however is out of the question as others have said, it's rubbish at the moment.

What do you guy's think ? to DMZ or not to DMZ, that is the question

I wouldn't bother. I've never put mine in DMZ or GMT or BBC or whatever abbreviation you can put it in, and I've never had any problems.

If you've not been having any serious problems then I wouldn't bother - if your NAT Type is consistently strict or you're having trouble connecting to the server then it might be worth it.

Disconnects are not uncommon in BF3 so I wouldn't necessarily put it down to your connection

I wil watch this thread with a vested interest. I'm with BT for my broadband and have a HomeHub as a router, now I have encountered various issues with EA online games, not just BF3 but also BFBC2 and Tiger Woods.

I have read various posts from other HomeHub users and EA online games, BT themselves recommend port forwarding, as for myself, I reckon I'll see out my BT contract and then move to Sky for my ISP (a lot cheaper too). Hopefully this will fix it for me

Hi all , having trouble starting a match now , lost connection after 2nd match tried to enter another quick match given error lost connection check your connections,have tried portforwarding dmz still unable to get in any  matchs again , any idea why ? cheers

DMZ is really way to go, or you could just open the ports for each game.

Find your router model in list, next pick your game ps3 bf3 follow the guide. Also playing online is not all about download speed, its upload that's more important. I could have 100MB down and 2MB upload, you could have 2MB down and 100MB up your connection playing online would be more better than mine.

Another thing playing PS3 with Wifi cuts down on your Upload do a test on PC has to be wired to see my point. Look at upload and do another test on PS3 and you will see. Its 100% best to always play without wifi playing online. is it not possible to connect ps3 to router wired?

Hi all.

Shankley, from the web site you suggested,

"The DG834PN will not allow you to forward enough ports, to run Battlefield 3. You should try using the DMZ portion of this router if it is available. Alternatively you can try switching the router to bridged mode. You will need to contact your ISP to switch to bridged mode, so they can make the required changed on their end."

So I'm stuck.
