Hi All.
I wanted to ask for some guidance here about Headsets.
I know a fellow PS3er, Devon 157 has a set of headphones with mic, I forget what they are again, a40s or something, sorry, but, £220 seems a lot of money, and yet when I went to the web site to look at them they looked rather difficult to set up etc, and had separate controls etc.
What do you guy's use, and are the claims really true about this "Surround Sound" for headphones with Mic's, I am confused about this. How can you have surround sound from 2 ear pads?
I normally play through my 7.1 surround sound THX system in the living room, but have thought about going over the headphones for later at night so I don't have to be so conscientious about others, and can have the volume higher.
If you do have any suggestions, please post Links to the relevant sites.
Many thanks for any suggestions on this.
Cheers.

7.1 needs 7.1 speakers built into the Headset this realy is the same as a home cinema system just reduced in size and place buy your ears.
They duplicate the speakers with each ear having those exact same speakers beside it as you would in a real home cinema set up.
Like normal full size set up, the balances have to be altered for your ears exactly to create the sweat spot so that a bullet fired from front left passes to right behind at the correct point with no over lap.

What this should not be confused with is virtual surround sound from only 2 speakers this has been around for ages and is even built in to TV sets, This is a Virtual surround sound filter that distorts the audio to fool the ears in to thinking the distorted audio is ofset in distance and location.
The quality of this is dependant on the expense and cost used to create the fake/virtual surround sound filter.

have you considered, the astro a30 instead of the a40? its the little brother to it, uses the same mix amp, just a supraaural headset (sits on the ear) rather than circumaural (over ear). i have them and are pretty good. And they are easy to set up, connect the mix amp to your ps3 via optical, and via usb, and plug your headset to the mix amp and your done. but dont expect them to be comparable to your home theather system, and you should be happy.
Like crackalaking said there not gonna be on the same sound quality as a home system but there still a decent headset and yea they are on the little expensive side but u get what u pay for, or you could buy just the mix amp and another set of headphones, also have you tried looking at the sony ones killer heard good things about them.

Its 7.1 Virtual surround sound and its pretty decent. The sound quality is great too but probably not as good as the ones meantioned by Crackalakaling

The best time to buy a headset was in November 2011.
An Eu distro company of sony products started a rumour that the USA Stereo headset would release in EU.
This caused EU prices on other headsets to drop. It was later found out to be complete bull crap as only US distro were actualy given any. Some of these companies had ties to some EU firms and have diverted a few to EU shops.
Sellers of the other headsets soon found out they had been worried for nothing and put the prices Back up to full value.
The only headset to stay dropped in price were the P11 and PX21 no matter how cheap the P11 got these dont sell well.
They are wired, stereo and lower quality than PX21 but not realy discounted enough.
