Just got BF:BC2 - enjoying it, some questions

Hiya

Been playing this over the last 4 nights. It's got me hooked. My last experience of Battlefield was mixed on the PC. I felt the maps were too huge but this one seems to be perfectly balanced. My KD ratio is only at 0.94 but I'm enjoying it loads.

I bought it pre-owned and am mainly playing conquest, but I haven't got a manual and am wondering a few things.

I always choose to go into a squad - I assume this shows my team mates as green little dots (because when I didn't I didn't get any visuals or notifications it seemed).  What's the point of this - no one speaks on headset - is there in game comms? I've tried pushing select and d-pad but no menu comes up.

I assume that the more XP you get and level up, better guns become available depending on what class of firearm you are using - e.g. if I use my pistol consistently I will get another pistol unlocked?

In conquest do you get points/XP for just sitting and holding a position? I was doing it yesterday but went roaming for more kills and capture other points because I couldn't see any XP accumulation.

Thanks for your time!

Yea squad is pretty lame as since PS3 doesnt have in game chat function (Unless you have a group of friends and use chat thingy) but other than that its only there for spawning in middle of battle or helping out thats it erally.

For Pistols these are unlocked as you rank up so each level you progress you sometimes unlock a perk or a pistol. But as you say if you use Assualy Medic Recon on Engi the XP you get for that goes to rank but also the class you used and how many points you got in that class. (and Awards deosnt go towards class rank up)

Yes you do unlock XP for getting the flag and if your in flag area (pretty close you have to be) any kills in that area you get defensive points but this is onlt 10 or 20 points.

Their is in game voice chat and its fantastic, unfortunately many players choose to purchase a team based game but not purchase a headset and work as a team, keep playing and eventually you'll find someone. I play with the same people all the time and its much better with voice chat, no need to press anything, just talk but remember you can only talk to the members in your squad not the whole team, the only way around this is not to join a squad and then your whole team can communicate ( if they have mics ) but can't spawn off each other. Hope this helps.

Re: Just got BF:BC2 - enjoying it, some questions

There are a couple of advantages of squads. Firstly you can respawn on your squad mates (there are some times you can't like if they're swimming at the time). Also you get extra XP for healing/resupplying a squad mate compared to a normal team mate. Also Squads have open comms (although often people don't use this as you've obviously already found out).
There are loads of different things that can get you extra XP, such as getting any of the various pins that are available, getting specific numbers of kills with each gun etc. etc. There really are loads of different ways. You don't get XP just for sitting near an already captured flag, but you would get extra XP for defending a flag, eg. killing an opponent who is near the flag.
This is a great game and you'll discover loads of cool stuff to do as you go along - enjoy!

I was wondering about the comms thing, also been playing for a few nights now and do have a headset but never seem to get anyone else talking.
