This is just the most hilariously bad decision. But hey, if you're making money, who cares about the players?

Yer if that is true I doubt I will be playing battlefield again much. I only play on official servers and after dice changed theirs to a load of random maps and game modes this is another nail in the coffin.

This has been going on for about a week but it's good to see some of the big gaming sites reporting this now. Hopefully all the bad press will force EA's hand. In the meantime I'd recommend LSD's OPC server. It's one of the few good ones left and normally well populated too.

if gamers encourage pay for servers why would ea pay for them, hopefully other developers wont follow their lead, on the other hand bf3 is garbage compared to bf2 i cant imagine moh2 being much different and i hope gamers protest by not purchasing their products. Agree with above that this makes a mockery of online passes.

If they'd stated from release that they planned to turn over server responsibility to the public it would have definitely cast things in a different light,  but now after i've invested so many hours into the game i'm not ready to walk away.  

So we can let it die and maybe regret it later,  I can just imagine all the 'BF3 was awesome' threads a few years down the line - or we can accept the community supported model and keep playing.  I'm for trying that first,  with the option of giving up on the game entirely available anytime.  

They keep saying that everything in the world of Battlefield is dynamic,  meaning this decision could be reversed by morning,  its not a question of resources or lack of server space,  if they wanted to EA could afford to sponsor a mission to Mars.  It was obviously decided after much consultation and study of data that we'll never be privy to.  

I still love the game,  personally i'm prepared to pay.  That might actually be the wrong thing to do,  but at least for the time being i'll pay for a server and donate it to the community,  so that if you want it there is a free server for you to use.  Everyone is welcome on it,  even the people who hate my guts lol.  No kicks or bans,  just goodwill to keep the game alive.

The main problem I have with community servers is that they will all have weird rules. The normal game of battlefield will be forgotten a long lost dream

I can't believe we've been shafted in this way. Quickmatch should ONLY use official servers.
