Day four was fire and manoeuvre tests but before all that the training team launched an attack against our platoon harbour. I'd been on stag from 0130 to 0230 got back to my shell scrape then whilst it was still ***** down had to get my waterproofs, helmet, webbing, smock, body armour all off and get it inside out off the rain get into my sleeping bag still wearing wet muddy trousers, shirt and boots whilst not waking the two people already sleeping in the shell scrape. A shell scrape is basically a hole knee deep and big enough for you to lie in and you put a poncho over it tied to trees. so all the above is much easier said than it is done. Then theres the fact its pouring down and on the previous night my sleeping bag got wet so I was in for one uncomfortable night until we hear gun shots at 0330 "STAND TO STAND TO..."
I was out of the sleeping bag like a rat up a drain pipe grabbed my rifle which is was sleeping with got some rounds down whilst the others got their kit on (on of which forgot to body armour on
) then I got my chance to get my kit on while they covered me. Could just make out the corporals silhouettes running behind bushes so I got to give some target indication getting our section to concentrate their fire in one spot (though I doubt any one down the lines heard me except in our shell scrape) then they started using mortars and small arms combined against us. After an hour the order came to pack up and bug out to the emergency rendezvous. That was a good day that.
hard work but good.
Got back to camp once all the test were done got the kit in the drying room then chilled out. Had day release on Saturday so went into Guilford got a large big mac meal and a free mcflurry due to being in the army
first shop I went into I spent £127 on a jacket and a shirt ![]()
Been a good week. Got the assault course tomorrow, hopefully smash that. Week 9 already
counting down the days till pass out ![]()
