Yes! Just got my heatseekers. I can quit spamming the jets and get back in the game. I got very little points since yesterday and haven't played anything but jet maps. Time for some Operation Metro meat grinding I think.

Do what I do and make a lot of fake locks so lock on but dont fire. Or you could get the extra explosive ammunition perk that gives you 6 missiles, I've completely destroyed helicopters and jets using that.

@InfiniteStates - Yes, I know that but what I mean is now that I got what I want I can go back to using the jets when they just happen to be there rather than waiting around in the lobby 'til they appear. It doesn't help the team and I like to mix it up :smileywink:

i have been trying that and i have the extra explosive perk,but i just seem to have no luck whatsoever with stingers,either the jet flys out of range losing lock or his flares still seem to nullify any stingers i fire even after waiting for a few seconds after they have been deployed,i just had a match where a i hit an attack helo twice with a stinger and he still killed me, first was from distance,i got vehicle disabled pop up but he was still somehow able to fly the thing straight towards me smoke pouring from it and all,as he approached i was locking on with my second shot which hit him directly on his windscreen and yet he was still going,by this time he was directly above me at about 50 feet 1 quick spray and im dead.

maybe i just suck but the stingers seem pretty useless to me,only time i get a kill with them is if the jet/helo pilot does not have flares unlocked,im hoping when i unlock the javelin it has a better time shooting stuff down.

Fire them from close range :smileywink:

 

The pilot has to manually fire flares - the further away you fire missiles from, the longer he has to react.

i understand that,but from my experience so far it doesnt matter how close or far away you are,the pilot gets more than enough warning,he gets an alarm to say he is being locked and a 1 to say the locks been made,then its just a simple tap of L1 to release 1 of his infinite supply of flares,makes stingers worthless and very ineffective in my opinion,as i said they should either limit flare use (making you go back to base to resupply more) or slightly increasing flare cooldown would balance it out..

This is why you need teamwork when playing the game. I would say stingers are almost perfectly balanced, a lone wolf engi will find it difficult to shoot down a good jet pilot, but its not impossible (using tips like states pointed out). Two engineers actually using teamwork will destroy jets easily. I think that is pretty fair considering a jet will not be able to locate where engineers are shooting from, so stands little chance of killing the ground targets that are trying to take them out.

teamwork is something pretty rare in fps’s particularly on the ps3,almost every match i have played in battlefield 3 your lucky to hear someone using a mic let alone work as a team.. also most engineers just roll with the rpg/smaw and spam them at chokepoints..

i shouldn't need to join a league/clan just so i can use the stinger effectively.i think ill just relegate the stingers to the useless weapons pile and join everyone else spamming rpg/smaws..
