Private Servers.

Hi.

If and When they decide to let us have private servers, will we be able to select different settings for the game play.

IE: Will we be able to set a total map time as opposed to the ridiculous ticket system?

At the moment it can be hit and miss getting into a good balanced game with no team killing, and where the teams actually talk to each other, thus prolonging the game play and enjoyment?

Will we be able to set a time of say 20 or 30 Min's where the game ends at that time limit with the highest scoring team being the winner.

This would be great. At the moment I just can't be dealing with this bull***** ticket system. It's very hard trying to keep your cool while there are people that Team Kill, do NOT use Voice comms and refuse RevivesSeriously, whats the point in them playing?

Thanks.

How should we know? I doubt DICE even know as there are no plans for them at current on consoles.

If i was to guess i would say yes though, i think all settings would be changeable.

Re: Private Servers.

The option to refuse revives is there for a reason. Because its annoying as hell to kept being brought back into the game at

  1. a choke point eg the locker/stairwell area at flag B on Op Metro that is the last place on earth I'd like to be.
  2. Wanting to change kits*
  3. I have seen a shiny new tank waiting at deployment.
  4. Spawning into instant death, would be just quicker to let me spawn normally instead of wasting another 5 seconds on the menu

*If I have been killed by a tank I don't want to keep getting revived as a medic or recon. I don't want to keep getting my arse handed to me on a plate every 6 seconds because because of one medic to thick to let me die in peace, respawn with RPGs/C4 or at base to bring our own tank into the equation.

Again voice comms I don't feel the need to use them. Only use them to talk to people I know and even then its usually nothing remotely related to the game

WoW.

I can see some of your points, but, if I may answer them in the same order, but with MY initial reaction to your comments.

1. a choke point eg the locker/stairwell area at flag B on Op Metro that is the last place on earth I'd like to be. That is a very fair comment in that situation, however it does not seem fair on the poor soul that risked his ticket in order to revive you.

2. Wanting to change kits* Ermm, isn't this the whole idea of the "Squad base" in the game. I tend to see who is what in the squad, and then fill in any gaps.

3. I have seen a shiny new tank waiting at deployment. Fair comment again there.

4. Spawning into instant death, would be just quicker to let me spawn normally instead of wasting another 5 seconds on the menu.  Again, in the Squad base of this game we are supposed to be working as a "Team"

Again voice comms I don't feel the need to use them. Only use them to talk to people I know and even then its usually nothing remotely related to the game.  Well this is a shame as it makes for a more enjoyable game in my opinion, but hey, that is just my opinion. I remember when this game first came out and everyone was bleating on about the non working voice comms, now it's working no one wants to use it?

I have been fortunate enough to have played in some great games where they have used them, and it made the game much more fun and useful. I did not die as much because a squad member told me over voice comms where he just got killed, I was then able to work around the enemy and kill them, then revive my squad member thus saving us a ticket, which means we WIN the game instead of Losing the game because we ran out of tickets.

And, Last night I was in a great match with some Americans, however, one of them decided to be a pillock and do a spot of team killing, but the other two in the squad were having none of it and made him leave by letting him know over the voice comms that they were not impressed. He left after a few mins of this  I was a Medic by the way, so was keeping a safe distance back and then Reviving my squad members as and when they got hit. But because we were all on voice comms they could let me know if they did not want to be revived. No one else in that game refused a revive in those few matches I was in, it was a great series of matches.

A lot of people were looking forward to the release of this game because of the "Strategy" it was supposed to encourage, and of course, the "Team work" too.

This is yet another reason why I am looking forward to the private servers coming.

Earlier I suffered at the hands of one of those medics at the chokepoint you mentioned in your 1st point. 3 times the idiot revived me just so I could be frag spammed before I could refuse the revive. You could argue hes keeping the team from losing a ticket but thats just bull. More likely hes score whoreing and bagging himself 300+ easy points at my expense. It served no tactical purpose at all. In those 30 seconds I couldve spawned on a squadmate, fought my way up an alternate route (Im quite dandy with an M16 :smileyvery-happy: ) and bounced a grenade off the frag spammers noggin. Wouldve been a much more tactical30 seconds eliminating a frag spammer at a choke point n taking a few enemy tickets than what transpired. Theres nothing teamwork based in the thinking of a score whoreing cod cowboy

As for voice comms I only use them when needed. Usually always when playing with friends but when im not it depends on if the rest of the squad has a mic. No point in turning my mic on to talk to myself lol

As for private servers I cant really see it happening. As a Battlefield2 online vet on Ps2, the setup on BF3 is similar with the srver browser etc. I dont recall there being private servers on BF2 so I doubt it. The only thing missing is ingame clan support. BF2 on Ps2 came complete with all manner of clan options, even clan servers for face offs and clan leaderboards. Im sure theres clan options on the battlelog but I think DICE dropped the ball a bit here.

Still, Im enjoying the game and thats all that matters at the end of the day

Re: Private Servers.

team killing was a flaw in bfbc2 that should of been sorted in bf3, yes their was a auto kick system but if they had friends they could return and carry on, maybe they should introduce a similar system to mw3 where the person trying to team kill others actually kills himself rather than others. I personally hate bf3 and have put nowhere near the gaming hours into bf3 than i did bfbc2, its just lost all the fun that bfbc2 had.

I don't think there's any need for this personally... If the game is good and balanced, it will last this long naturally. If it lasts less time, it is because one team is getting hammered. In this situation, I would rather the round ends quickly and let the "auto-balancing" try a configure a better match (as far as it works - which isn't far).

This pretty much

Can you imagine having to put up with a complete base rape for 30 minutes.  No thanks, the ticket system works just fine for me.

Re: Private Servers.

I played some Rush last night during the OPC night. Some of those maps seemed to last forever!

I don't see the point in private servers unless, console users wanted to film some funny stuff.. Or if like in Halo 3, you could ad things to the map, make up your own game types, like that ''infection'' game, or ''racing''. That stuff would be fun.

Clan matches/training primarily.

Also, if it's truly private servers (not just private games) you can set them up how you want... Caspian Border 24/7 or whatever. Plus, if you're admin, you can kick chopper loiterers :smileywink:
