personally i think its lazy and unskillful to just chase someone around beep beep beep beeeeeeeeeep.... its more fun and more challenging to use the cannon. sure modern dogfights probably would use missiles. but if you have rockets or guided missile you can be effective at air to air and air to ground support. more so than a chopper maybe?

oh you could argue it takes skill to time missile firing but i think thats just having the patience to wait. proper dogfights are more fun

especially when the person tailing you has the red mist and they fly into the crane you just flew under

If you are up against a good pilot a heat seeking missile isnt going to pose much of a threat. I use guided missiles to attack vehicles so i'm actually helping my team rather than living in my own world up in the sky.

I use the guided shell myself, the amount of time you spend trying to lock on and get a few hits in with the missiles you could have already shot the other jet down wit the cannon.

Rocket pods are the best, Guided missile is a one hit disable, sometimes a kill, if the targets light transport/jeep.

Time taken for a guided missile could be used for 2 passes with rockets and take em down! Also means you fly lower and out of sight of enemy jets with heatseekers on, as I find when using guided missiles that you need to be higher up because of the stupid amount of zoom and high speed of jets in the game.

I usualy find rocket pods almost always kill the target if you get a good pass, sometimes you even get infantry too

i think some people are misunderstanding the purpose of the thread im talking about Air to Air combat. not air to ground, although as Mike939 says you are much more help to everyone if you load up with Air to ground munitions before setting off.

I'd be happy to stay in the air for more than a minute and I would literally cream myself if I actually got a kill in any form of aircraft

Real fighter pilots dont use missiles or guns, We pull up next to enemies and show them double middle fingers whilst using the gravitational pull of our huge balls to drag them into lamposts or mountains.

I don't fly much anymore, I hoped when the big armoured DLC arrives there'd be some kind of twin seat plane with the back seat dedicated to weapons and secondary counter measures, that'd be fantastic. They're adding new vehicles and mobile artillery etc so who knows, and they did say they'd be the biggest maps ever seen in the BF series.

Or it might play better if the pilot deals entirely with airborne threat and evasion,  and the copilot targets ground units with a laser designator and ATG bombs.

Heat seekers should do 60 total damage. 

Reason they put it in the game was to make sure bad players did not get destroyed by good players in the sky all the time.

Which i don't understand the logic when you put in vehicle unlocks and dumb down flying jets. 

Only time i use heat seekers if my wingman is crap needs help > > 

Only time it a problem is when i got two jets using them on me and a heli
