The snipers you saw were trying to get a set number of kills with their rifle to unlock a new attachment, the mortar guy might have been trying for his 300 mortar kills medal, the engineer trying for repairs or a service star.
I like collecting medals myself, i'm aiming to get them all eventually, and what business that is of yours I don't know. However, many medals and trophies can only be achieved in the most densely populated games, so people will keep doing it.
I can often be seen playing in some obscure fashion that makes no sense in order to achieve a medal, and honestly, I paid enough for the game so i'll play how I want. Most of the medals help the war effort in some way, even if its only by keeping the enemy busy. If that bothers you mate, I reckon BF3 isn't the game for you.
They built a mode in for people like you, squad deathmatch + rush, everyone is trying to win, go play it.

There are times and places for challenges to complete, for instance if I want to do sniper unlocks I will wait until the attacking side of a suitable map so not to affect the team too much, if they are having trouble planting I will switch class and help them out. I WILL NOT doggedly do it an innapropriate times that affect the teams chance of winning.

good for you, you must be young or ocd then. I myself pay the game to win as intended, not so I can run into school bragging to the guys that I have platinumed another game.

And with this you fail to see my point.. at which juncture did I say people can't play that way? I merely created a thread for people to vent similar frustrations to being lumbered with hopeless teammates. Battlefield is actually the game for me and I am extremely successful at it, having being ranked in the top 1% on every cod since 4 i was never really into the battlefield series. but i actually have ditched the mess that is MW3 for this and im ranked similarly high on this.

For the record I only play rush as conquest is a camp fest/vehicle wh0r3 fest so it is rush i was referring to no not everyone is trying to win, you will be lucky if 3-4 out of 12 are actually concerned with the objectives.

Your opinion doesn't upset me, and you've got a right to express it. For the record I don't go running to school to brag about anything, i'm 39, married 11 years and i've got 2 kids who often tell me when i'm playing rubbish, and advise me on a better strategy.
It's actually YOU that doesn't like to hear a different opinion than your own, and can't accept that people have a right to play their own way. I'm only killing time with this game until Borderlands 2 comes out, so i'm not taking it too seriously. No, I don't always play to win, when I do you'll know it sunshine because you'll see my name at the top of the board.
However, since i've already got the MVP 1st, 2nd & 3rd medals - i'm working on others I don't have, and now I know it bothers you i'm going to do it even more just for devilment. Play your own game, i'll play mine.

My apologies for the assumption, just you dont normally get older people who care about trophies and what not.
And the topic was designed to have a bit of friendly venting on in game irritations, i didnt hear your opinion regarding that I heard a defensive remark implying I am TELLING people how they should play, if anything I was mocking the stupidity of others NOT dictating to them how they should play their game.
And I suppose my question was rhetorical anyway, I already know why many people couldnt care less about playing the game to win.. usually its selfish Kd padding or the mind frame of people in this country that its 'the taking part that counts' to console those who lose at things. (is it any wonder our country is cr@p at every sport)
@ the other guy who was mocking my taking the game 'seriously' I forget his name and I have the reply window open so cant be bothered to go back and look :-)
How is wanting to win at anything taking it seriously? If I play a game of football with my mates I still want my side to win, I wont start taking shots at my own goal and passing the other team the ball. Suppose some people are more goal driven in life while the rest have Jeremy Kyle to watch/take part in lol
