I have just installed Play TV on my son's PS3 but am frustrated that there does not appear to be way to trim the recordings. I know that with PlayTV being Freeview approved there are restrictions on ad skipping etc but you can't trust the TV stations to put the shows on exactly the right time so you have to record extra before and after so you get all of the program. Is there some way you can trim the excess from the start and the end so you are left with only what you actually wanted.

Out of curiosity what area do you live Vic?
External storage for the ps3 has to have FAT32 as the file system.
The FAT32 file system has a max file size of 4gb, so any file bigger then that you will not be able to transfer off.
Search google for Mpeg2 or mpeg4 video editors, some are free, most are limited demos, that is you will need to pay to get full functionality or non water marked video.

Thank you for raising this issue. The problem is greater than just the ability to edit the 'recorded' program length:
1. The PlayTV needs to allow you to rename the saved program (when doing a manual recording the program name is not saved and it needs to be added manually but this cannot be done). You end up with ALL the manually saved programs with the same name and no way to tell which program is which.
2. The PlayTV needs to allow more than 10mins of extended program recording to allow for the stupidity of programmers at the TV stations that think they are smart preventing their viewers from changing stations by running overtime constantly. This TV station 'clever' idea to stop people switching programs mid-stream is leading to crazy or pointless program guides. Add to this the fact that many stations don't keep this information updated or current means you need to use the manual settings at times.
3. The ability to edit the program after it has been saved helps reduce the file size and conserve disk space. I am not worried about the adds being left in the program - the ability to skip these makes this easy to deal with.
One last point - is anyone having trouble with their PlayTV recordings being blocky when the TV look OK?
Hope Sony do something about these PlayTV issues - great idea that just needs tweaking to make it fantastic!
