James Cameron's Avatar - The Official Thread

So, I figured it was time to make this thread, especially since the teaser trailer for James Cameron's Avatar was released on the internet today and you can view it HERE.

What do you guys think? Are you hyped or a little unsure of it at the moment? Discuss.

Re: James Cameron's Avatar - The Official Thread

I'll go with the unsure basket right now. I think I'll see it out of curiousity, from what people are saying there's really no other film like it at this point... it's hard to say. Technically it might be stunning, but I could easily see a lot of good work coming undone by bad acting, overly-complicated storyline and flat dialogue.

Re: James Cameron's Avatar - The Official Thread

I always thought that Avatar: Legend of Ang and Skyland were shows for people who didn't like traditional anime... theoretically they're kids' shows because ABC kids plays them but they're for an older audience imo (Skyland moreso than Avatar).

James Cameron's back making Sci-Fi, all I can say to that is GIGGIDY!

Don't forget this is the director who brought us Alien, Aliens, Terminator, Terminator2 and The Abyss. So it's a better than likely chance that this will be awsome.

This is one that I'm definaetley hyped for.

Of course, he's also the man who brought us Piranha 2: The Flying Killers... :smileytongue:

lol not to be picky but Ridley Scott might have something to say about Alien.

The latter four are undoubtedly science fiction classics, and Titanic is one of the most famous oscar-winning films ever, but I still hope for Cameron's sake that this film is at least slightly intellectual... maybe District 9 has the whole "thinking man's sci-fi" market cornered but action films are always on shaky ground - if you miss, you can miss really bad. Why did Alien 3 and Ressurection fail, I mean both films had Sigourney Weaver and an Alien in them? Why did Terminator 3 fail, it still had Arnie in it? It really came down to dodgy scripts in the end.

I'm waffling on a bit, but I still stand by my statement - visually there's no doubt it will excel, judging by IGN's initial eyes-on. Unfortunately visual effects does not a classic film make.

Re: James Cameron's Avatar - The Official Thread

I'm betting this one will be huge.  14 years in the making, revolutionary 3D without those crappy green and red glasses; this is the film Cameron has always wanted to make.  Sure, it might get a bit full of itself, just like some of his work (Titanic being the primary example) but the trailer is jaw dropping.  Cameron has said that the film is actually about the Na'vi and their relationship with the planet Pandora versus humanity and its desire to destroy its environment.

Oh, hang on, that was half the theme from Terminator 2 as well....darn :smileytongue:

I still think it will be AWESOME!
