James Cameron's back making Sci-Fi, all I can say to that is GIGGIDY!

Don't forget this is the director who brought us Alien, Aliens, Terminator, Terminator2 and The Abyss. So it's a better than likely chance that this will be awsome.

This is one that I'm definaetley hyped for.

Of course, he's also the man who brought us Piranha 2: The Flying Killers... :smileytongue:

Going to watch it tomorrow I believe, looks to be the best movie of the decade. Possibly the best movie I have ever seen...

Re: James Cameron's Avatar - The Official Thread

I want to go see this in 3D, might wait a few weeks though so I don't have to sit through all the "ooohs" and "aaahhhs" of people around me. In spite of everything I've said before, this does look really good.

I think the movies are going to make me poor... I've seen Zombieland and Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs in the last couple of days (the later film I didn't really want to see but got pulled along by friends) and now Avatar and Sherlock Holmes are really making me reach for my wallet.

Re: James Cameron's Avatar - The Official Thread

Saw it in IMAX 3D at Fox Studios last night... totally LOVED IT! The story is nothing new... quite derivative of many movies we have seen in the past... but everything is so polished and so visually stunning that you will be totally sucked into the world of Avatar. The last third of the film is amazing and you will find yourself wanting to clap and cheer at certain pivotal moments.

There was actually a round of applause for the movie at the end... which rarely happens at aussie screenings.

Cool gonna go watch in 3d tonight, dont really care if the story isnt original, the shogun or dances with wolves type of story is always good, without spoilers do they leave it open for a sequel?

Re: James Cameron's Avatar - The Official Thread

Just watched in, looked sooooo awesome. Best movie I have seen, easily 10/10.

To answer your question maximus, I'd say yes...but this one took 4 1/2 years to make, so if they do make a sequel, it won't be for awhile.

Technically it took around 12 years with James Cameron getting into the R&D and planning stages... a large part of that 4.5 years would've been R&D as well, but now that they know how to make the film I doubt it would take as long to whip up a sequel. I just wonder if Pandora will return in the next film, if you go back to the original teaser trailer Cameron said that this was just one of those millions upon millions of planets out there... that was sequel-bait in itself.

Re: James Cameron's Avatar - The Official Thread

Just came back from watching this, verdict: Big dumb action movie

I probably shouldn't have expected anything more or less than flashy special effects and a hoo-rah *insert emotional motivational speech near the end* story but coming from James Cameron I sort of did.

Yes I enjoyed it and yeah it looks amazing but there are some very cheesy moments in it and the story isn't really all that interesting or told all that well (the narration style falls very flat...).

Anyway to put it into perspective I couldn't stand Transformers but I did enjoy Avatar so that probably gives you an idea where it falls on the "Big dumb special effects" scale.

Score: 7.5/10

Overall enjoyed the movie, more specifically the start and the end of it, didnt care at all for the Na'vi the story we wouldve better if there was more focus on the humans imo.

If you watch you must watch in 3d 8/10
