I'm sure all of us at some point have seen movies which make us go "wait, what? How'd that happen? How'd he...?" *head explodes* I'm not talking about purely ficticious movies like Transformers or the Terminator, because if you accept the conventions laid down by the movie's premise the script still flows in a logical pattern. I mean movies where everyone in the film clearly wore their dumb pants to work and the logic behind the characters' actions is so flawed you wonder if George Lucas penned it.
I've seen a few ads for and forced myself to watch the trailer for Monte Carlo a few days ago (the inspiration for this topic), and while I haven't seen either film it's similar to the Lizzie McGuire movie from a few years back (Monte Carlo is actually based on a book that pre-dates TLMM so I won't call it a rip-off). Basically the film is a Selena Gomez vehicle with her and two of her gal-pals tripping off to France, only for Gomez to be mistaken for a French singer which somehow gets her access to some of the most exclusive locales in Monte Carlo. And of course naturally they all meet prospective boyfriends while simultaneously trying to keep their cover, which will be blown by the end of the film but everybody's kind of okay with that and then there's a big outtro with Gomez rocking the mic. Or something.
The whole premise of the film raises one of two problems - a) That nobody does any kind of background check on anybody. I can understand a normal person in the street getting confused and gushing how much of a fan they are to a person who only looks like a celebrity, but in world class places they do perform elementary checks to make sure that they aren't hosting an imposter. b) Even if you did manage to evade checks for a little while, it eventually catches up with you, and in most cases you end up being charged with fraud or given a bill which you'll probably spend the rest of your life paying for. Perhaps I shouldn't get too jilted though, this film does revolve around Disney Channel logic.
I would rip into the Star Wars prequels too, but redlettermedia.com (or type redlettermedia on youtube) do a far better job picking those inconsistencies apart.
So, what other films revolve around facepalm-worthy plots?

My favourite movie that I love to hate is Wolf Creek.
Ok so it's "based on actual events" but, even if we believe that some guy staggered out of the outback claiming to have been crucified by a psycho, all the rest is pure supposition. For all he knew, two girls he was driving through the outback with hooked up with a stoic rugged idiot, nailed this guy to a wall for being a ***** and ***** off to sunny Majorca.
Apart from the psycho, nobody else in the film survived to tell the tail. All of the other awful cruelty was invented by the film maker.

If I remember rightly the geography in the movie was a mess too..... and didn't the dude walk all the way to South Australia after he escaped? lol....

Any movie with Sarah Jessica Parker. Why? Because the idea that any man would actually find her attractive is completely unrealistic. ![]()
