As critical as I am that he will get the role, the fact that he really wants it works in his favour... I do think he has the edge over Flanigan because both are equally unrecognisable to the general public because of their limited exposure (neither Firefly or Stargate: Atlantis were exactly high-rating), but Fillion has the public support.

But the fact that it's a role he wants the role would put him over most of the Hollywood cream, who would view the role as more of a publicity exercise. Even if they're not put off by the high failure rate of videogame movies, many might see it too much as a poor man's Indiana Jones and don't want that stigma. Therefore it's not only possible but increasingly-likely that the nod may go to Fillion. Better to have a no-name actor playing a good part with good material you can use in the trailers than a big-name actor who looks bored throughout.

If they go big-budget then I think the studio would rather have an A-lister, bored or not, that they can slap on the posters and other marketing rather than an enthusiastic nobody that the general public wouldn't know from Adam.

Now that Robert De Niro's name has been attached to the project, I want everyone to know I called it :smileytongue:

Also Mark Wahlberg is being pursued as Drake as well as Joe Pesci for an unknown role.

***** (I reserve my use of this for rare moments) ...but Mark Wahlberg as Drake is nuts.....while I don't hate him as an actor, he's not Drake..fullstop..

It seems to be that directors have pet favourite actors/actresses they work with (Cameron/Weaver) (Burton/Depp, Bonham-Carter) but a tad more research of the character traits may assist in this case.....I hope I am proved wrong, but I just don't see it ...really I don't ....but then I am clouded by actually having played the franchise to death and having some clue about what ND intended Drake to be like :smileyhappy:

whatever :smileyhappy:

DeNiro as Sully wouldn't actually be bad...  Sadly, that article left out the really hideous bit, though, as referenced here:

And I quote...

Right now, the script is being composed from scratch. Word is the actual video game didn’t have much there aside from a concept and a name.

Re: Nathan Fillion urges Twitter fans to make him Nathan Drake

Well, to some degree they can't simply rip the whole story from Uncharted... hell you may as well just rip the cutscenes from the game, sew them together and put them on YouTube and BAM you have your Uncharted movie.

Mark Wahlberg isn't as solid as Drake. Drake to me comes across about 6'0, maybe a little shorter, but with a very solid physique that Wahlberg doesn't have. Aside from the director's connections, he's got an action star background but also displayed comedic timing in The Other Guys, which are basically the two elements required to make up Drake. I dunno how funny Gerard Butler is, I haven't seen Bounty Hunter.

Re: Nathan Fillion urges Twitter fans to make him Nathan Drake

This role belongs to Nathan Fillion. Let's make sure we do our part to help him get cast as Nathan Drake! Want to help? Keep reading:

We Browncoats & Castillions are obeying @NathanFillion's Mission Directive: Campaign for him to be Nathan Drake!

Here is Nathan's tweet: "If ever there was a Twitter campaign, let this be it. Rise, ye Browncoats. Rise, ye Castillions. RISE! http://j.mp/aEGe79 "

Let him see that we have RISEN!

Please write your desires in on each of the sites gathered here for you. Let's do everything in our power to help Nathan Fillion become the A-list leading man movie star he deserves to be! We all want to make very sure he is spared any more pain in his career such as he, and we, suffered with the demise of Firefly and Serenity. Let's steadfastly support him with our collective might, mind and strength. Show our Captain how beloved he truly is. We are Browncoats and Castillions. We have the power to put our Big D*** Hero up where he belongs, and keep him there. Thank you, and God bless you all for everything you do to help him.

For those who might like an example of what to say, here's the essence of what I'm posting in the comments section of each site:

"We want Nathan Fillion to be cast as Nathan Drake!

Yes! NATHAN FILLION is the BEST choice to play Nathan Drake! He's got action hero written all over him, with the biceps to prove it. He's extremely handsome, bright, clever, sexy, hot, young and devilishly funny. And he wants this role as much as we want it for him!

It's his turn to be the next powerful leading man on the big screen. We Browncoats and Castillions are determined to get him up where he belongs, and keep him there. He has single-handedly transformed the term "geek" into "sexgod." He's an up-and-coming A-list movie star with muscle and heat and he's a-comin' to take over feature films! I feel it! Grab him while you can for the Uncharted franchise. Because he'll also make the best Indiana Jones when they re-boot those movies!!

In his campaign to be Nathan Drake, we Browncoats and Castillions rise up and firmly support our Captain Nathan Fillion!"

Re: Nathan Fillion urges Twitter fans to make him Nathan Drake

Question, can anyone here imagine a film with De Niro and Pesci with no swearing?

I don't necessarily agree with that.  What's wrong with sticking to the story that's already there?  You might need to make some changes as part of the adaptation process... flesh out the plot and characters, lighten up on the action... but the core - a good story and good characters - is already there.

The Sin City movie was basically a panel-for-panel recreation of the graphic novels and that turned out fine.  Hell, when they're remaking other MOVIES they don't usually throw everything from the original out and just keep the "name and concept" (although that has been done from time to time, and sometimes even successfully e.g. Brian DePalma's Scarface), so I don't see what's wrong with keeping the core of the game intact.

But this is more a symptom of the general level of disdain which the movie industry still seems to feel for the games industry - "they can't possibly offer us anything creatively - all they've got is a licence which might put a few more bums on seats to watch some generic action flick we want to make for next summer".  And, of course, they invariably end up making a mess on it.  There has never been a good movie adaptation of a video game, and coincidentally there has never been one that paid more than cursory lip service to the game they're supposedly adapting.  The one that comes closest is probably Resident Evil, which at least kept some of the characters from the game even if the story has been an unrecognizable dog's breakfast since the first movie.  And, incidentally, that's the one that has made the most money out of all of them.
