The Uncharted - Drake's Fortune movie has a writer/director...

...and it is David O Russell.

About the only thing of his I've actually seen is Three Kings, which I rated pretty highly.  It'll be interesting to see how he goes with this... the entire thing will probably stand or fall on how good an actor they can get to play Nathan Drake.  I wouldn't fancy Nolan North's chance of keeping the job unless they go really low budget, which is unlikely.  If they give it a decent budget they'll be looking for a big name actor.

Yeah just waiting for the names to start falling into place... I highly doubt Nolan North will be in it as Nathan Drake, he could have a minor role as an easter egg for the fanboys, but I'm not entirely convinced Nathan Fillion's got the role either being more of a TV actor.

Casting:

Character: Nathan Drake

Heart Prediction: Nathan Fillion

Head Prediction: Gerard Butler

King Leonidas from 300, Butler has that strong physique similar to Drake, I'm almost tempted to throw Clive Owen in here as well I don't think his voice quite fits. He's a recognisable name without demanding a megastar budget.

Character: Elana Fisher

Heart Prediction:Malin Akerman

Head Prediction: Malin Akerman

She's got a good recent body of work which is essential for any major coup, most notibly Sally Jupiter in Watchmen. She has a good resemblence for the videogame character, and again wouldn't cost a bomb.

Character: Victor Sullivan

Heart Prediction: J.K. Simmons

Head Prediction: Robert De Niro

It's a really hard call this one - Simmons (the editor in the Spiderman movies) has the energy and charisma for the role, but De Niro represents a AAA name to attach to the project. I'm not saying it'll be him, there's any number of older men around Hollywood who could try for the role, but think of it like Ben Kingsley in Prince of Persia. Even though it's been a long time since Kingsley's portrayal of Ghandi, he represents a staple name for projects which might have otherwise failed, like PoP and Thunderbirds (even though Thunderbirds was a failure).

Any other parts will depend on what the screenwriter ends up with, whether he wants to take some characters from both games or write a completely new story.

They (hollywood) are going to ruin the franchise.

Still I am holding onto a glimer of hope that

this will be good.

Hmm looking at some of those predictions

the only one Id say would most definetly not do the

film is De Niro. I cant see him agreeing to do a film

based on a game even if he was sought after for the part.

One film Id love to see actually would be a God of War film

But completely 3d (ala the cutscenes from the first game)

That could be epic long as you attach a good writer and

a director :smileyhappy:

I Heart Huckabees is another very interesting film of his.  This gives me confidence that he will respect the existing story.

I agree that Nathon Fillion is an obvious casting choice, and I'd love to see his interpretation of Drake.

There is a huge amount of potential in this movie. :smileyhappy:

I feel l.k simmons screams the part of sully. I didn't no who he was I had to google him but as soon as i saw his face in images it hit me like he would be a good sully.

I think it would be better if they used the game actors as they have the same voice of the characters (obviously) and also they all did mo cap for the in game characters so they would resemble them.

Re: The Uncharted - Drake's Fortune movie has a writer/director...

It's impossible that the voice actors would get the role. The only reason they would be selected is because they have the same voice and a rough likeness, but the only market that attracts is the Uncharted fans market who'll come even if your on-screen duet comprised of Spencer Pratt and Paris Hilton. Movies need names in them, particularly if the plot is subpar. Some films like Zombieland could get away with casting almost-unknowns, but rest assured Uncharted: Drake's Fortune will need some names.

I guess you just have to ask yourself, if they went for a starting line-up of Gerard Butler, Malin Akerman and J.K. Simmons, would that cast be enticing enough to an outside audience to go see the movie?

Well for me I don't go see movies based on the actors. I don't even remember their names so when they say "staring (some famous person) I normally have no idea who it is anyway and I go and see it based on reviews, ads and what it seems to be about"

Agreed. To me there's nothing worse than Star vehicles, which is what Uncharted may end up becomming unfortunately (see: Angelina Jolie in Salt).
