Buzz!: Quiz TV – Frequently Asked Questions

Buzz!: Quiz TV – Frequently Asked Questions,

Why does the same question sometimes appear more than once?

On the PS2 we used the internal clock and a memory card to avoid repetition. On the PS3 we use the hard disk. We make a note of the questions you’ve seen, which ensures that new questions are always given priority, but obviously if people keep picking the same sub-categories then at some point those particular questions will run out.

When playing a Sofa vs Sofa game, the host PS3 picks the questions. This means that the host is unlikely to have seen the questions, but the other players might have done. We’re looking into some code that will cross reference people’s questions which we hope we’ll be able to include in a future patch.

Why is the Sofa vs Sofa game short?

Relentless sees Buzz! as a social game, usually played with friends and family. We believe the game mode that gets played most is the regular offline game so that’s the mode we lavished most attention on. However, that doesn’t mean we don’t intend to make online play even better - Sofa vs Sofa has proved to be more popular than we first thought, so we’re thinking about ways in which it could be extended.

Why can I only use one buzzer in Sofa vs Sofa?

Sofa vs Sofa was designed as a mode to pit team against team – a way of proving which living room has the best skills!  So we always expected a representative of each team to solicit answers from their team and then answer on that team’s behalf. It was never our intention that multiple people on each PS3 could be represented with a contestant.

As you may have read, we will be patching the game to allow any of the buzzers to respond to the question (quickest counts, so make sure you’re confident!).  However, for now, your team will still be represented by just one contestant.

Why can I only write quizzes that are eight questions long?

The content needs to work in-game, where each round is 8 questions long.  If we didn’t break rounds down like this, you would have a really uneven and disjointed game experience.

However, that doesn’t actually mean that you can’t create longer quizzes by expanding the number of MyBuzz! rounds. To allow for this we have built the playlist feature. It’s easy to combine several quizzes back-to-back, play them all in a single game and then share the playlist with other players.

What happens when a question is wrong in a MyBuzz! quiz?

MyBuzz! lets people rate the quiz accordingly and leave a comment on the website for the author to see.  That way it’s up to the creator to debate the answer and make changes to boost the quiz’s popularity.

Why can’t I rate a MyBuzz! quiz in terms of difficulty?

The quality rating system works well and isn’t too intrusive. We didn’t want to introduce a second rating simply because it starts to get in the way of gameplay. We aggregate how many questions are answered correctly in a quiz, but at the moment we’re not using this data to categorise quiz difficulty. If you’re a MyBuzz! quiz author we suggest using the quiz title or description to give an indication of the difficulty, e.g. “Spelling For Beginners” or “MGS4 Fanboys Quiz”.

Why can’t I use MyBuzz! quizzes in the regular game?

Adapting questions for different round types is really complicated.  Some (like Point Stealer) need picture assets to work, in others (Pass the Bomb, Pie Fight…) the sequence of questions can go on and on.  We wanted to keep quiz creation simple and fun and so limited the questions Fastest Finger, which  we think is a  straightforward and really enjoyable round type.

Why can’t I add pictures to MyBuzz quizzes?

As the lawyers at YouTube would tell you, letting people incorporate material which they might not own the copyright is legally difficult!

Where has Rose gone?

Our focus groups showed that people always buzzed through the rules screens, so when we decided to remove them Rose didn’t have much of a role. She’s pursuing personal projects; she may be back in future games.

Why can everyone see my answers in All That Apply?

We wanted people to use this to bluff as we’d been enjoying this tactic in our Sofa vs Sofa games! We’ve read that, for whatever reason, people don’t like this so it’s something we are looking at changing in a future patch.

I’ve downloaded a quiz pack from the PSN store. Does it get used in Sofa vs Sofa?

Our matchmaker will try and match you with people with similar sets of questions. As such, you’ll only see those questions show up in a Sofa vs Sofa game if we’ve been able to find three other people with the same set.

I downloaded and installed a quiz pack. Where did it go?

The quiz packs get installed into the relevant channel, e.g. the Rock Legends pack gets installed into the Music channel and the questions will show up in any game which uses the Music channel. Alternatively, you play that pack specifically by browsing for it in the channel’s carousel.

Are you going to address “feature X” in a patch?

We’re really pleased that Sony have let us continue making additions and improvements to the game after it has launched. There are no known bugs; the patches are purely to add or tweak gameplay. We have a list of changes that we planned to make post-launch and we’re also listening to what you’d like to see changed or introduced into the game. It’s something that we work closely with Sony on.

We’ll release information on forthcoming updates and patches when we know they’re ready as we don’t want to disappoint anyone.

Why aren’t the buzzers Bluetooth?

The PS3 has seven available Bluetooth channels, of which some are used by the controllers. If the wireless buzzers used Bluetooth we would not be able to let eight people play wirelessly.

Why can’t I control other games when the USB dongle is in my PS3?

The PS3 automatically sets USB devices as Controller 1. Some games, such as Metal Gear Solid 4, require the SIXAXIS to be configured as Controller 1. To resolve this issue either remove the buzzer’s dongle or reconfigure your SIXAXIS to Controller 1 by pressing the PlayStation button.

Will voice or video chat be included in a forthcoming patch?

This is definitely something we want to introduce as quickly as possible but we don’t have a firm date for this patch yet.

Re: Buzz!: Quiz TV – Frequently Asked Questions

Cheers for answering the questions we have. I am pretty impressed with the developer feedback with buzz, if you think about very BIG titles (e.g. Cod4- 9 million copies sold) which the devloper hardly responds at all to anything..

Now you missed a question, will the trophy patch come before saturday :smileyvery-happy:

""There are no known bugs; the patches are purely to add or tweak gameplay.""

Hmmm, haven't you guys read the other topics. There is mentioned several bugs, like Point Stealer bug and Countdown bug.

I'm afraid Trophy patch is not coming this week (of course I can't know that, only guess)

thanks sssss lust :smileyhappy:

that's answered questions I didnt know I had until I read it!

I just wanted to say that I think sofa vs sofa is fine as it is - I like the idea I'm playing 3 other 'groups' of people, or even 3 other individuals. if people want to play with other people in the same room they should play offline imo :smileywink:

no, it doesn't, the rating system doesn't work well at all. people who find quizzes too difficult rate them low, people who find them easy rate them high. I've seen quizzes with incorrect answers and REALLY bad spelling getting high marks.

Betreff: Buzz!: Quiz TV – Frequently Asked Questions

Here is another note: i am a little surprised by the overall wording of the FAQ. On the one hand, Relentless (i.e. Dan) is exceptionally present on the forums and demonstrate interest to communicate with the community, hear their thoughts and even give a limited amount of feedback. On the other hand, this FAQ sounds almost arrogant towards the community in some places where i would interpret the answers something like this: "We heard you want this feature and this feature? Yeah, but we think you really don't want it. You know, too much options make it too complicated for casual gamers. Besides, it would be really complicated to implement.". I already mentioned this in anoher place. People like us aren't moaning for the sake of it. We want Buzz to be a good game with lots of options and configurability. Believing that the PS3 main audience is the same as the Wii audience is just plain wrong. PS3 owners are gamers, movie-lovers and techno-philes who know how to handle a thick manual. Also, when you spend 75 EUR on a game, you absolutely *want* something with the complexity that requires a manual. With these answers, i truly believe that you guys at Relentless are fishing in the wrong audience.

Re : Betreff: Buzz!: Quiz TV – Frequently Asked Questions

Yay The forum langauge bug still isn't fixed I see.

Ok back on topic I agree with bnz99

I was about to order this but I'm going to wait now.

Like quite a few things people go back to PS2 to play the game. (GTA, Singstar now Buzz)

Makes me wish I'd bought a PS2 (still considering getting one just for the sheer content)

I'll put Buzz on my christmas list and come back early november to see where it is.

I changed my profile language to english but it's now again french go go sony !!!!!

That's exactly what I was thinking - and there is the VERY easy solution to it:

In the main menu / screen have simply two option:

1. Quick play (keeping ale the defaults, "simplicity" as well as limitations of the original game)

2. Advanced (to give us more option to tweak the game to our likings) ... :smileywink:

Re: Buzz!: Quiz TV – Frequently Asked Questions

Wow, I have great respect for Relentless now, without meaning to sound corny lol! I like the way they're so open and tell us things.

I'm glad they'll be improving things via patches!

Re: Buzz!: Quiz TV – Frequently Asked Questions

Yeah, it doesn't sound great but just someone telling us what is happening is really appreciated.

Other developers just seems to distant and probably feel like they are too good to be talking on forums.
