Buzz!

Hi everyone,

Following some confusion recently about which languages are on which versions of the Buzz!: Quiz World disc, I thought I'd post the exact combinations. This is to help multi-lingual players who might want to buy a certain set of languages to play.

Disc 1: UK, Australian and International English versions

Disc 2: Dutch, French, German, Italian, and International English versions

Disc 3: Spanish, Portuguese and International English versions

Disc 4: Danish, Finnish, Swedish, Norwegian and International English versions

Disc 5: Polish, Russian, Greek, Croatian and Czech versions

Disc 6: American version.

You can only 'officially' buy those discs from the territories listed.

International English version is a 'generic' English language game that isn't too country-specific in its content.

The reason that the languages are split-up like this is due to the way disc distribution works across Europe - and because even a Blu-ray isn't big enough to hold all of them at once!

There's also, if you're interested in it from the point of view of 'how do they make games?', a problem with trying to put thousands and thousands of questions through Quality Assurance on a single disc. It just makes it really difficult and risky to have every single version on one disc, as there are too many ways for one version to affect all the others during testing.

So if i buy it in the UK there will be dutch on it? Because it isn't very clear where you buy it. I've already bought buzz quiz world from play.com but if there isn't dutch on it i will send it back. I haven't got it from play.com so i can return it if there isn't dutch on it.

No Dutch on the UK version Colburners. I'll bought already a version here in the Netherlands and send the Play.com version also back when I receive it.  

Also good to know:

Yesterday I add some UK players to my Friends list to play Quiz World.

Than I get a error message that it is impossible to play a game with a person who got a other language version of the game.

The version you buy in the UK doesn't have Dutch on, no.

We would love to make it possible for players from across Europe and the World to compete against one another - but we can't.

The problem is that the question databases don't match exactly, so you'd never get a fair game. Some questions are replaced for each country, so that they're relevant to the players who live there. The issue that creates is that it's almost impossible to say whether (for instance) question 1056 is as hard (or even on a similar topic) in English as question 1056 is in Dutch (or French, or German, or whatever). Imagine trying to do that across 19 sets of language content, with over 5000 questions in each one!

Hello All,

I think it's a lack of respect to all consumers that this information is not divulged in every game description. Even the promotional video should refer this. Or at least some news should have been released to the gaming news industry, which did not occur at all.

Every retailer should have on their game description exactly what version they are selling and the available languages it has.

I just bought the game from the UK completely unaware since every SCEE game has all the european language available, only to find it has only English available.

Now I have a copy of the game I do not want and will have to buy another in my own country at double the price only to have the language I desire.

I'm sorry but this this just ain't correc, this type of information is crucial to this type of game genre.

I know I said that - I've apologised for it elsewhere - but sorry again if I've confused things. That's why I started this thread so that it's clear to everyone what they're buying.

Buzz! titles have always shipped with varying combinations of languages, and Quiz World is no different in that respect. Each Sony territory sells the version that is correct for the inhabitants of that region. That was especially the case with the Buzz!: Brain Of games, which were custom-built for each country. It isn't just Buzz! that is sold this way - lots of games do this.

Hello Casper,

That localization may be true for Brain of Games(which I accidentaly found in a shop one day without hearing any news about it, no in development, being released nothing) and apparently now for Quiz World, but it was not the case for Buzz Quiz TV.

The games that are custom-built for each country are vary few and I still believe they should be announced previously of their launch in the media services I mentioned.

No game news website mentioned this custom-build or any news at all of the game. Most online stores do not announce what languages the game contains and even worse the game box does not do that either.

Im from Canada, and this is the only place  Ive found to get actual Buzz quiz languages information before having to buy it yourself.

I too am very bummed at the way Sony handles this. I come from a part of Canada where 90 % are french speaking, and our version of Buzz Quiz TV didn't have the shadow of a French word. Futhermore, Sony callsour version the "American" version, when clearly the US inhabitants are more than 50 millions hispanics. Im guessing you forgot about that small population too.

Anyways, the way Sony handles this language problem is not only not very ethic because they don't even label it on the box, but its also deceiving to buyers and future buyers because we feel left out and not taken into consideration when these choices ( bad ones ) are made by Sony. You say these choices are made to suit the needs of the inhabitants, I say you can't expect me to consider your game as a purchase when you don't consider us as a large part of the market you are selling this game to.

Hi Caspar, 

     Could you tell me from which country should I get the Disc 2 you described?  I'm living in Quebec/Canada and despite the fact the government now forces video games companies to distribute a french translated version of their game here, if another copy translated in french already exist elsewhere in the world, we still get this new version of Buzz in english only (American version).   

     So I'd like to buy the CD that contains both french and english on it and from what you're saying, I should get Disc 2.  I thought that the Disc 2 would be for UK, but from the description, it seems that UK got disc 1.   Can you guide me where I could buy the right disc?   The major issue I have is when I go on Amazon stores (fr, uk, etc) they don't details the languages contained on the game, so no way to know if we are buying the right disc.
