Buzz World Championships - How you doing?

So the Buzz World Championships have been up and running for just over 24 hours. How are you doing?

Are you set on making it into the Top 32, and making the Regional Final?

Where are you on leaderboard at the moment?

Any tips for everyone on this forum?

Any questions?

I suspect that the UK winners will score a total of 8750 to 8940

(based on the best scores from Buzz Quiz TV - although this time round it is definitely harder, because you cannot choose to concerntrate on one category and memorise all the answers)

Do you think the new version of the single player over 5 rounds is better than the old version?

Does it give everyone a better chance to qualify, or will the winning scores still be above and beyond the average player?

Finally a big thumbs up to Buzz, Relentless, Sony & BMW/Mini for putting up this awesome competition and prize, for the best Buzz players in the UK and Europe. I think this recognition of the players and the fanbase, pays homage to every single player who enjoys Buzz. Something that is all to rarely seen in the videogames industry.

Good Luck, and hopefully I will qualify and see some of you in the Regional Final.

Gilhopper.

PS Remember we all have until the 22nd May to qualify.

Re: Buzz World Championships - How you doing?

Wow, you'd think that they wouldn't get the Peter Pan one wrong - it isn't exactly difficult to research...

Congrats to you (at the moment! :smileyvery-happy: ) gil, riding high at the top of the leaderboards.

Had my copy delivered today and got 8090 on my first game, putting me at no. 9!

My next goal is to get into the top 8, then I'm coming after your score.  :Sniper:

Bring on the next round!

Re: Buzz World Championships - How you doing?

Thanks the message of congrats. And well done to your yourself, for breaking thru the 8000 pt barrier on your 1st attempt.

No mean feat - honestly.

I know I'm in the lead, and people keep saying well done - for that I am grateful.

However, I honestly believe that by the time everyone has got their tactics up to speed, and they've practiced hard, that the required qualifying score will be between 8750 and 8900.

For the record this is how the scoring potential works

If you score 1700 for 6 questions, and get everything correct over 5 rounds, your score will be 8500.

If you answer every answer with 290 on the clock (meaning a reaction time of 0.5 second per answer), then your score per round will be 1740, and your total score will be 8700.

For every point over 290 you average (for all correct answers) per game, your score will increase by 30 points

For example an average score of 293 per answer = 8790 total for the game.

In Buzz Quiz TV, the leading players in the 1pl mode, were creating scores averaging 295 per answer!!!

That means they were answering every question in 0.25 seconds on average.

Their scores for this version would be the equivelent of 8850.

Now answering every question in 0.25 of a second is an incredible achievement, but DO NOT let this put you all off.

My Tip for achieving great scores is this:

Just relax, and play the game

When I achieved the leading score I currently have, I knew the potential outcome was good at the end of round 4. Somehow I forgot about the score, and focused on being quick. In the final round, no answer was under 290, and I had two 297 answers as well.

Getting a score over 1700 pts per round is very achievable, when you are relaxed and in the groove (especially if you like the subject). Doing that 5 times in a row would get you a score of 8500. But look at the leaderboard - not many have scores of 8500. Likewise answering every question with a 290 average, would generate a huge 8700, but only 1 person has achieved it.

Finally, the irony is that I find myself score chasing and dividing round scores and multiplying them every time I now play. Maybe if I just relax, then I'll increase my own score. I did manage an 8724, 3 nights ago - but that's as close as I've managed since.

All the Best

Gilhopper

Those scores were mostly due to a bug in the code that was solved time ago so we shouldn't be seeing those in Buzz Brain of

Re: Buzz World Championships - How you doing?

Cool, so my 8738 effort could maybe be good enough to qualify for the UK finals.

Awesome!

Thank you for that info, and all the best to you and qualifying yourself.

However scores of 8750 to 8800 should be achievable - with practice, quite easily.

Whether or not 32 people can do that, remains to be seen...

Re: Buzz World Championships - How you doing?

Hey gilhopper

I got the game today and spy you there at the top of the list - well done!

I'm setting my sights on top 32, rather than anywhere near your score, but thanks for the info about the score - it means I dont have to try and work it out every time (and get it wrong!!!)

Good luck everyone that tries it!

Re: Buzz World Championships - How you doing?

Good Luck to you Vikki.

But don't just set your target as my score, because as I've said - I expect the winning to score to be a lot higher.

Another tip is to pick 5 or 6 sub-categories and learn them off by heart. (It helps if you can play a two player game, as you can select 1 cat and play all the topics listed, again and again). Then take your new know;edge and storm the leaderboards. I'll watch out 4 your progress.

All the best

Re: Buzz World Championships - How you doing?

Oh noes! Vikki's here, time to pull up our collective belts!
With that in mind, I finally got a 100% run through, after countless 29/30 tries.

8610 puts me at 4th place right now, just 7 points away from 3rd (I put that down to the stupid question about Ant & Dec in the films section!).

I don't think the scores will need to be at such a high level as you suggest gil, don't forget we have less than a month left and the Buzz Quiz TV scores have been going for ages.

I'm hoping my 8610 will be enough to put me in the top 32 'cos I don't think my nerves can take much more of this!

Also, what format do you reckon the final will take?  A local or online multiplayer game version within Buzz, or something outside of Buzz entirely?

I can't help but think that for people who can easily remember the answers to questions (which I have experienced them to be repeating after just 3 days of play) have a distinct advantage.

I have a good memory for these questions and am starting to learn the answers to things I didn't know first time around, but I think I would be stronger on brand new questions if that's the way they go in the final.
