MyBuzz content quality abysmal - MyBuzz (on PSN bans needed urgently)

I had the original PS3 Buzz and enjoyed it alot.  Just picked up QuizWorld, and showed a friend how good the MyBuzz questions where.  What a shocker, the are abysmal.  Ever since the trophy patch that awards gamers for creating quizes (which on paper sounds a good idea), MyBuzz is now full of crap.

My 3 rounds picked at random were:

1) a round where someone just mashed the keyboard with random letters for both the questions and answers.

2) a 1+1 = ? quiz

3) a quiz that told you all the answers.

Of course I reported all these quizzes as spam (there was no category for clearly so bad it's not even a 1*).   However what happens?  I would hope they removed them, but aside from this?  Allow the lazy trophy whores to just destory MyBuzz?    Surely a MyBuzz ban, or better still a PSN ban and revoke of trophies would be better...

That's what you get when you give a trophy for quizzes (I just reported one random letters also this morning), Sony mostly relies on users for reviewing and reporting on quizes

Of course, there will always be a few bad./dodgy quizes, but it's at a point where it's now stupid and means that you don't play MyBuzz questions.  You can't even browse as easy in the new game compared to the old ones, so you are FAR more likely to be given crap that wastes your time..

I have to agree, I've done my bit and reported lots of quizes as spam; on the web pages because it's far easier there and if you find one spam quiz the chances are that the rest of that users quizes are spam as well.

i guess they'll learn for future versions but I'm not sure how ther current set is best cleaned up.

When I made my quizzes I did make ONE spam quiz but you do not need to publish it for everyone to see. If it is just for friends or private it still counts towards the make and publish 20 quizzes trophy.

I spent far too long reporting spam on there.

But what really finished me off was when people started low rating quizzes that they did poorly on.

I know they needed to get people over to MyBuzz but trophies was not a good way.

Indeed.

"oooh it's too difficult for me, i'll give it one star"

Idiots.

Unfortunately it's the same for all games which use trophies to try and engage people in their online community, it gets ruined by trophywhores and selfish fools.

Hi,

If you've played the game, what do you guys think of the MyBuzz! Trophy in Quiz World?

I agree that the Quiz TV Trophy for quiz writing was too open (no criteria for whether a quiz was any good or not), but we tried to address that in Quiz World by setting a minimum rating & number of plays on each quiz created.

Do you think that was a step in the right direction, or do you think that in reality people will abuse the system whatever we do?

Cheers,
Caspar

Re: MyBuzz content quality abysmal - MyBuzz (on PSN bans needed urgently)

To be honest Caspar, I think that can be solved, but will need some back-end programming to solve it..

The understandable first move of awarding trophies for MyBuzz content in order to attract people to the site was always going to attract people who just wanted the trophy in the quickest way possible.

The Quiz World way of Ratings and Plays is a step in the right direction but it seems that its only rearranged the problem. You only have to look around here to see the threads begging for Ratings and Plays, this will result in quizzes that are rated above what (and played more than) they would actually deserve.

Ultimately I know you will solve it, perhaps along the lines of awarding trophies for quizzes that gain a set rating from the most active members of the quiz writing community. Sort of like how Google ranks pages based on the pages that link to them.

Perhaps if a person who has written lots of quizzes that have been played lots and rated highly (and they've submitted X number of quality quizzes in the last number of months) votes for your quiz then that vote is worth more than someone who submitted a couple of low ranked quizzes 2 years ago.

Obviously that will need to balance making a trophy obtainable against making it impossible, but  I'm sure you'll come up with something

ps

If you call them Trophy Points tell David that I want some free merchandise for the idea. :smileyhappy:

Ultimately, as you've said yourself, people will abuse the system no matter what you do. You only have to look at LBP and SingStar with their trophies that require lots of good votes etc where trophy hunters (i'm being polite there)  just create threads on forums where they arrange for others to artificially boost their figures. Thus totally negating the original intent of the trophy where it was designed to promote a healthy online community in said game. It's a sad state and a real shame that some people just can't play fair and will resort to any means they can to get "medals" in some kind of Mutley obsession.

The only real way to solve it is to not include any online trophies but then that doesn't encourage people to join in the online community, which would be a shame as the community really can make or break a game.

Maybe if a quiz is reported as spam then it could be investigated and moderated and if it is deemed as such then said user could be excluded from gaining the trophy which they were chasing?
