21-22 July decision on R18+ classification

The next SCAG meeting for State and Territory A-G's will be held on July 21-22, and Federal Minister for Home Affairs Brendan O'Connor has stated that the R18+ will be voted on at that meeting. The board members will have had many months to review the statistical data and public feedback, so it will be interesting to see if the legislation will finally be passed.

If all A-G's agree there will be two interesting things to look out for:

1) If any companies decide to release games which were initially banned (i.e. Mortal Kombat etc.)

2) What will be the first R18+ game. Gears of War 3 and Rage both have September releases but they will probably have been rated before the decision. It would be rather ironic if Rage got an R-rating when John Carmack initially said it would have an M-rating

it has to pass, it is pathetic enough to go this long without a proper rating system. every other country in the world is laughing at us!

Re: 21-22 July decision on R18+ classification

Possibly we could see Mortal Kombat if we get an R rating

(unless it gets edited and pushed through before the meet)

Gears of War I have a feeling MS AU may try to use its PC muscles

to get the game released as MA. An rating may hurt sales here.

That being said I think its R in the UK, (but its M in the states).

I think the upcoming Wii/PS3 Dare game or whatever its called

should be rated R I cant believe it is approved with a PG rating

but hey I guess thats the backwards classification board we have.

Theres only one game to be released this yr which I think should

be banned regardless of an R rating (cant believe I just said that)

and thats Postal 3..if its anything like the first 2.

Re: 21-22 July decision on R18+ classification

I just hope that the OFLC (or whatever it is nowadays) uses it's judgement and doesn't ignore the MA15+ rating. Making half the MA games R is just plain wrong, and could cripple the industry. IMO only the really strong stuff (GTA, Dead Space perhaps, maybe Gears) should warrant an R-rating.

:No-no:

Postal games were awesome.

They have aged awefully, but they were so fun.

Re: 21-22 July decision on R18+ classification

I'm doubtful it'll pass. The Vic rep seems like another christian do-gooder. Alot of the positive side in the govt seems like they only want it so they can put current MA games into R18+. Not add the rating to allow games in that are more suitable to the rating.

The whole issue is a load of BS. It should have been sorted out years ago.

Re: 21-22 July decision on R18+ classification

I am all for dead space being R.  I was playing it the other night and even I was shocked by the gore lvl and I  love gory games.

And I really hope that they leave the MA rating how it is (maybe a few miner changes). But I dont want the R rating to basicly be the MA rating. That would just be pointless.

Atleast we can rest at night knowing that one day, in the future, they will be dead.
