I haven't had the time to play a whole heap of games this year but there has been one stand out game that has hooked me like no other game for many years...

I spent the first part of the year looking forward to Battlefield 3 and I played the beta to death even though it was only one map. When I finally got my hands on the full version I played it for about 2 hours and I haven't touched it since... Thankyou Dark Souls, you have ruined every other game for me.

I finally got round to playing Oblivion in preparation for Skyrim (my other 'most wanted' for 2011). I haven't even bought it. I have had a go and it's certainly impressive, similar to Oblivion but streamlined and improved but again, ruined.

Best Original Software Innovation: Dont really think there was any unless you count what ND did with the UC3 engine

Best Original Hardware Innovation: Again I dont think there was any

Ready the Banhammer:  Well Syndicate has already been banned but Im putting money on Mass Effect 3, GTA V, Lollypop Chainsaw to receive boobie bannings.

But to receive an overall banning besides Syndicate...Ninja Gaiden 3...I think the bone tearing thingo 

should make it very bannable

Biggest Surprise: Theres a couple and they are all highly annoying..FFXIII- 2 (finish versus already)

MGS Revengeance (love platinium games but this really annoyed me Im going in with the expectation this will be like Bayonetta with Raiden)

Biggest Improvement: Uncharted 3...dont know how they did it Uncharted 2 was just amazing so I dont know how ND raised the bar so high

Truthfully I don't play a quarter of the games which are released, but nonetheless I'll offer my 2 cents worth.

Most Dissapointing Game: Resistance 3 - Okay not a bad game on its own, but based upon what the first two did and that Insomniac spent a whole extra year on the 3rd one I was expecting so much more from this game and was dissapointed from the re-cap video through to the ending.

Most Potential: Rage (why not?)

Best Original Software Innovation: id tech 5 (again, why not?)

Wish List: I might go for Bioshock Infinite.

Well, even though we have had Skyrim in the house for PC for weeks, I gotta confess, I still haven't even looked at it, let alone played it... But then, yesterday one of the boys brought over his copy of Skyrim on the 360, and I thought, my god that looks good... I don't think I've ever seen such good visuals come out of the 360... maybe Gears of War 3.... Forza 4 is also a very visually pretty game, but completely different style of visuals, so not really comparable..

The thing about Skyrim is it's not UC3 pretty in terms of texture and polish, but then you realise that this is a frickin huge living and breathing world with day/night and weather cycles and a huge number of unique internal and dungeon areas....and it just makes you go OMG...

For me like RDR a world you can lose time in exploring....

Yes it can be buggy...strange and random stuff can happen and if you have been following the interwebz there are  people with game breaking quest/lag issues (particularly on the PS3)....I'm yet to encounter one...but as a technical achievement it is outstanding ...great GUI, inventory systems and tbh is a game you could be playing for months to come.....where oblivion left me bored ..this has kept me hooked..

I'm amazed at the install size on the 360 - under 4 gig ....crazy work

for me a worthy GOTY along with Portal 2
