Xperia Play: Yay or Nay

First off, I don't have an I or Smart Phone (How behind the times am I) and now I'm considering getting the Xperia Play.

Basically what are people's opinion on the phone, does it work well, is it worth buying.

Re: Xperia Play: Yay or Nay

I think that's the biggest drawback is that you can't download stuff you've already purchased off the PSN.

I think it might be best to wait for a couple of months and see what Sony adds to the Android Store, or possibly any extra features Sony might add to the phone.

I'm still very much split 50/50 if I should buy the phone.

Re: Xperia Play: Yay or Nay

The phone is totally separate from the PSN Store. It's not a 'PlayStation Phone' it's a Sony Ericsson Xperia Play, it won't play PSP games, it's not designed to. It's designed for people who enjoy mobile games, the games released on Android and Apple marketspace, but want better controls rather than crappy touch and tilt controls.

So in addition to playing Mobile games better than any other mobile device on the market, it will play the PSone games Sony release via the Android market and does just as good of a job as the PSP. Also with the amount of emulators available on the Android market, it's one of the best emulation devices for on the go easily with it's full control pad.

As far as smart phone capabilities, no issue at all. My first Smartphone was the Sony Ericsson Xperia X1, which has done me well and I love a lot of the features that phone had, even for Windows Mobile 6.1. Going to the Xperia Play it's light years ahead in power and performance, everything runs so smoothly and quickly without an issue.
The main reason I use a smartphone is purely for web browsing, and the Xperia Play does a damn good job of it. I was looking at the Xperia Arc, but for another 80NZD, I effectively had the same phone but with a controller option. If the Xperia Play could run Monster Hunter, then I probably wouldn't look at my PSP again. With the PSVita out soon, I don't know how much gaming I will get done on the Play afterwards, but for now, it's a lot of fun and a great cross between a phone and a gaming device

If you guys have any questions on the Xperia Play, just ask, I will be glad do answer as best I can.

Re: Xperia Play: Yay or Nay

That's the most positive review of the Xperia Play I've seen, and it's leaning me a lot more towards buying one.

Is there any other Playstation content available on the Andriod store besides the PS1 titles, perhaps some of the PSN titles.

Re: Xperia Play: Yay or Nay

I'm with Lionface on this great phone and the added controlls just makes it so much easier to wastse time

It might not be the most powerful smartphone on the market but it does everything the average smartphone user does

Re: Xperia Play: Yay or Nay

Walked into the Telstra shop wanting to get one. Either $1000 or $99 a month on a $59 freedom connect plan.... So u pay $40 a month for the phone on top of your plan. And to me that is a bit to much,

So I walked out of there with a Iphone 4 on a $59 freedom connect plan + $10 a month for the phone

Re: Xperia Play: Yay or Nay

i own a sony xperia x10I and it is almost identical to the play. Same OS....

I feel my phone is far superior to any inferior iphone out there as the functions of the phone are great and im not forced to use itunes for my music. The camera is also HD 8.1mp!!! I wouldnt recommend picking up a play.....if i caught the train to work i would maybe consider but i drive and my phone sits on my dash via aux cable pumping out skrillex :smileywink:
