An Appreciation for Treyarch

The Call Of Duty series has been going now for some years now, and we can all remember our first game we got. I have not played the original but the second installment when I was at my friend's house quite some time ago. By the time Call Of Duty 3 came out, I bought it. And how I adored it...

There was something different about the game. Yes, we were still fighting the Axis, replaying through the Second World War, but then it felt different. I never realised that it was a different developer, and while many of us have an automatic reaction that if a different developer is making the game, they are making a more mediocre version. But this game was different and unique sharing good points with bad points. Every game has this.

So what made Call Of Duty a good game? By now some of you may still think it was not a great game, prehaps an "embrassment" to the franchise but here is a list of reasons why I loved it:

  • Campaign - This game had a pretty decent single player mode. What made it much more challenging was Veteran mode , which to me is still one of the most satisfying moments after you complete this mode. There was even a moment in the trenches, I was stuck for ages but it required effort and patience to take out the enemy. Then there was the fact that you had to risk your life to go prone, shuffle inches foward, before your whole squad came behind with grenades showering from the sky and allies dropping.
  • Vehicles - The vehicles added a whole new dimension to the online. The furious scramble to the motorbike to try and capture the enemy's flag, flying past the tank swivelling to aim for the sniper in the barn. Lying prone in the river while a tuck flies by with a squad of people. Makes the multiplayer feel more real rather than just people.
  • Maps - From that previous point, I am of course talking about Poisson, a map I will never forget. It had a town centre and open spaces, vehicles and sniping points. It really did provide a great scenery, except for those poor cows. There was also the forest, where snipers thrived and Eder Dam, with sniping battles from all side and warfare in the dam.

Now this all came from the first game I got. Then I got CoD:MW. Once again a different developer, a different game. It took a new twist, away from the WWII scene, which saddened me at first, but I quickly got adjusted with a great game. I admit IW are a great developer, just as much as I think Treyarch made a game just as good.

Moving on to CoD:WaW, I was glad to see us back in the muddy, desolate trenches and playing some awesome. This time we seen ourselves as an American fighting the Japanese for a lot of it. And here is more reasons why Treyarch made a great game.

  • Campaign - I could glorify this even more with how great it was. Japanese enemies popping out of small holes ready to stab us with their bayonet and seeing friends die make it feel even more serious
  • Dismemberment - You have to admit Treyarch went no hold bar, with this. Shooting in the head, or limbs, and even a mighty explosion cloud leave your enemies crawling and begging for mercy. Bloody stuff...
  • Zombies - Team up with 3 others and survive for as long as you can. I was very surprised to see this appear when I completed the game on Veteran, and thought about how random it was, but after  playing it especially with those with mics, it is a whole different online game

I know I seem like a hypocrite, but people are already discussing how bad the installment will be. I even heard it in a cafe. To go in with such a negative idea is wrong. Give the game a chance when it comes out but stop thinking about the bad and hink about how we have a great installment just out, and try to be encouraged to see Treyarch will bring out a game just as good.

I could right so much more, but I probably have bored you more than some History lessons but I feel we are too ignorant to the developer.

So please show your appreciation to Treyarch, even if they don't make a game as good as IW, you have to admit they try and did well in their own right.

Thank you for your time...

Re: An Appreciation for Treyarch

I never played WaW just because after playing CoD2 which was a pretty good game, I played CoD3 and realized it was the worst first person shooter ever. Most boring cutscenes ever, tons of grenade spam, boring multiplayer, boring gameplay. I don't know why I even finished the game, but it was the worst thing I've ever done in my life.

Also I had had enough of WW2 games so I just stuck with MW.

Re: An Appreciation for Treyarch

World at War wasn't as bad as everyone said, Zombie mode was really good fun with a few mates and the multiplayer wasn't terrible although not as good as MW. I must have enjoyed it quite a lot as I completed it on Veteran and got the Platinum too.

Re: An Appreciation for Treyarch

COD 3 was the first COD game I played, it was on PS2, I didn't have online but it sounds fun. The only other FPS I played was Medal of honour and I thought COD3 was miles better than it. WAW Zombies is still my favourite thing to play. Infinity Ward need to take a page out of treyarchs books and have some good, fun, relaxing moments in their games.

Re: An Appreciation for Treyarch

Treyarch should stick 2 what they do best, which is making $hitty Spiderman games.

I agree with you.

WaW is pretty sweet. I'm not saying the SP was better than MWs, after all it's all down to personal taste isn't it? Bit I found it much more enjoyable than MWs.

From storming the streets in evication toshooting down the zeros, I thought it was awesome.

Onle however, was a flop in my opinion. Making one weapon, THE most pwerful and accurate weapon in the game, topped with stopping power, spoilt online, nad it took me FAR too long to level up.

On another note, I absolutely love the IW fanboys here (like the one above me).

One minute, it's BOO HOO WAW SUX TREYARCH MADE IT COD3 WAS *****.

Then it's, BOO HOO WWII IS BORING D:smileyvery-happy::smileyvery-happy::smileyvery-happy:

I'm sure if IW set the next COD game in the WWII era you wouldn't all be crying.

I decided to see if there is any proof of Treyarch making a good Call Of Duty game. Check here. :smileyhappy:
