SO yeah as the title says, I've been having some trouble recently ever since I patched to 1.06 from 1.05 for COD: Black Ops.
Whenever the game loads before all the treyarch intro things, there are these sounds that play.. about three times. THese sounds are pretty similar to those that are played whenever you are try to start play on the multiplayer side (I think it's from whenever you see the box that says "downloading content" before you connect to the servers).
Furthermore, i can't skip to the main menu of the game until half way through the cinematics involving the woman saying those numbers. My ps3 won't reaad the hard drive up until this point and i can't skip the treyarch intro thing.
But here's where the trouble begins, whenever i try to play online, it just won't connect to the black ops servers. Usually it scans/reads the HDD before you can actually connect but i observed on my ps3 that it actually doesn't do this. I've tried deleting every bit of Black Ops in my ps3 account and i've even re-updated black ops. I've restarted my router and switched my ps3 on and off...
So if someone could provide an answer, that would be greatly appreciated.

I'm having the exact same problem and it's really ***** me off. I get the three tones before anything, when I click Multiplayer it just goes to black and sometimes will get to the multiplayer menu. If I even get this far, about a minute into any game that I join, my entire PS3 freezes. This is an absolute joke. If anyone has any answers please post them on here or email me at bergmann.jake@gmail.com. Don't be an ***** and send me ***** I don't want to read, please. Thanks.

The same thing is happening to me.
Sometimes there is no sound at all. And sometimes I can chose a game type, but then it freezes while loading in. I have had to hard reset my PS3 every time. This is bull#@$@!!!!
The game is completely unplayable in Multiplayer. Another triumph for Treyarch. You guys are terrible.

Alright, guys I got mine to work. I haven't tried it since it worked the one time, so I'm not positive that it's a permanent thing, but give this a shot. Every time I would play, the game would freeze at 8:47...every...time. Ridiculous, I know. So the game froze like clockwork and I got on the phone with Activision to do their automated response thing which is about as useful as Yahoo Answers. While the game froze, I held down the PS button to try to exit; nothing. After my phone call I just let it sit for a while and eventually the PS Button menu came up as if when I held it before it worked. So essentially, if your game freezes just leave it for a while and it will get itself out of it. It worked for me, hope it does for you. Maybe I'm just lucky.

Nevermind. My game still sucks. If I do a system restore, do I lose everything like saved game states and my videos?

Same problem here, I tried deleting just the game data and re-installing it but still waiting for the main menu to show up. It seems frozen and un-responsive, except for the PS button. I can still access the PS menu from the 'frozen' game.
I will leave it here and get back to it later....
Jersey shore is on in 15 min....LOL
