dude can you use your friend list to jump straight into games (like on XBL) or do you have to be invited to play?

yes you can

press triangle over a friends name on the PS friends list ( while online in MW2's multiplayer screen)

then choose either Join party( which is what you want to do) or invite to game

And it now works after 3 patches... (Dw socom is up to its 6th patch in one year and game is still broken)
