Supermarkets buy in major quantities.. Asda etc are much much much bigger than Game, and can afford to take a smaller profit off the games cos odds are they will sell a lot moreSorry but I can't agree with that, GAME are a rich comapny and have loads of buying power.
Game take advantage of the casual gamer and uninformed buyer (such as granny) and could lower their prices but choose not to.
Game are big yeah.. but surely you are not arguing that they are bigger than any of the supermarkets? they cant compete, if they could, then they would have the prices down at the same prices
Of course they're not bigger than the supermarkets but they are a specialist store and probably wrangle some bloody good wholesale deals out of the distributors so when it comes to games it's probably a level playing field between Game & Gamestation against the supermarkets.
The thing is with Game it's not only supermarkets who are cheaper as in teh past few weeks I've seen new and fairly new titles being sold cheaper in places like HMV & Argos. Game always seem to be the most expensive and I don't believe that's down to lack of buying power but the fact they love to exploit the casual and non gamer.

I might buy a sausage roll and a bag of Penn*State sour cream and chive pretzels to nibble while I play

I'd argue that it's very rare for a game to completely sell out as it's an easilly pressed mass media and many 1000's of copies can be made in a pressing plant in no time at all. Do we really need to pre-order a game? Is it really at risk of being sold out?
I'd bet that many of us only pre-order for the following reasons:
- Posibility of getting a title early through the mail
- Double reward points from GAME website
Hardware on the other hand, such as a console or the Wii Fit board can't be manufactured so rapidly or in as great numbers and pre-ordering is advised.

Didn't GTA4 sell out everywhere?
I know that Mario Kart for Nintendo Wii did , took months after release to hold of a copy of that!
Ive got my MW2 already but very tempted to grab another from a supermarket to claw back some of the £40 (5 for £200) i paid.

I put that down to poor planning by the distributor. The work rates of pressing plants makes game sell outs a thing of the past, unless of course you didn't press enough to meet expected demand.
The conspiracy theorist in me sometimes suspects that some titles are deliberately keep 'just in or just out' of stock to maintain their position in sales charts.'Trickle' selling can make you more money in the long run than meeting demand on launch day and then watching your sales fizz out

Not from what I've read all over the 'net. Morrisons seem to be playing a good poker face at present.
Does that imply they've got something special to pull out of the bag? Can any supermarket afford to beat the Sainsburys price?

You should realise when you pre-order you aren't guaranteeing anything except that you'll get a copy of the game. This time you chose to back the wrong horse, maybe next time you'll pick a winner.
Totally agree with ya mate, it's a massive gamble doing either, i pre-ordered Killzone 2, & it didn't arrive untill a week after release day, that was the first & last time i'll pre-order. so tonight i'm off to my local ASDA to get my copy, well thats what i'm hoping will happen, anyway hope to see some of you online later,
