Looking back at MW1 MP.

Hey guys. So i thought i pop in MW1 the other day.. and realised i didn;t have it no more! gutted! not sure why. So i decided to have a look on youtube for footage. Enjoyed watching some stuff, it felt .. rather simplistic. Quite a lot aestithic improvements from 1-2.  Infact it reminded me a lot of watching the older COD games, in a way, guns were more tactile, it was gun on gun. Only those 3 killstreaks! Some nice touches - smoke from teh rpgs were cool, the snow in bloc. Some of the maps look a bit antiquated though i.e crossfire.

Quite a lot of maps seemed to be really self contained. I think creek started away from that, and a few more made there way in MW2. Of course looking back at stuff you do see those differences, and some similarities.

what were your abiding memories? your favourite maps. etc.  I think its a shame that the COD name as been washed over a bit with the yearly releases, but looking forward to MW3.

Re: Looking back at MW1 MP.

COD4 was great and more equal i remember stepping in and just being able to kill higher ranked players straight away, however now a days its full of the same stuff as the other games such as campers, lag and tbh i wouldnt play it, its best left in your memory for being good

Re: Looking back at MW1 MP.

great thread.

for me (although i love mw2) cod4 remains the benchmark re balanced fps mp gameplay. i dont know if that's my perspective because it was my first major online experience and somehow i see it as 'the holy grail' but the mp element of mw1 gave me a gaming buz that i've never had sinse.

funnily enough, all my favourite memories from cod4 are from the creek. s&d on that map was sublime. to this day i can't understand why creek is so underrated.

never owned MW1 but played mp a few times...favourite maps were shipment and wetwork.....i liked the fast pace and the fact it was less dependant on killstreaks

COD4 was my first fps title for the PS3 and it just blew me away. The reason why it stands out to me was that it had no competition in other fps's and was a game that changed the fps scene for me. It was the game that got me into the cod series with its easy pick up and play style and had me spending many long hours on the ps3

Re: Looking back at MW1 MP.

i think COD4 was alot of people first major online investment. A combination of having great graphics, gameplay and the start of the broadband internet boom, it just was perfect for its time.

I too just felt i was totally sucked in by it all.  And still apreciate that special feeling that cod gave at the time. I still get it now, playing other versions. which is good.

Re: Looking back at MW1 MP.

It was the last FPS where you could be aggressive and do well
Unbalanced guns but the map design is something which helped made the game.

HAD issues which were not fixed in MW2 and increased along with far worse map design. Still a good game.
Only got COD4 till recent but it still a good game.

Shame they don't go back to that style of game in terms of map design along with higher recoil weapons. With ded servers and a server list. I would buy it in a heartbeat

COD4s multiplayer (much nicer than MW1 8D) still looks like so much fun, dispite being a few years old now :smileyvery-happy:.

at the time is was all a bit new and exciting, especially for those of us who didnt have that much experince with those types of games online. obviously its been been improved upon and taken in different directions in lots of other games since then, its still nice to look back and see how it all kinda started. its like the barebones of any decent shooter and can probably still hold its own against weaker games nowadays.

i remember not going through many of the guns, trying a few combinations with perks and stuff, but then just sticking to the ones that worked for a long time. some games were quite tense, where others could be fests, it sorta worked both ways. and playing on Downpour, Backlot and Pipeline alot lol.

maybe the less-is-more approach (even though that wasnt the case when it was released) is sometimes a good move for some games.

Re: Looking back at MW1 MP.

i'm having to youtube the maps to remember what they were. As soon as i saw backlot.. automatically thought of Domination B. right int he middle. crikey!.

again, quite another well contained map. If you compare it to the likes of estate, creek that are more open.

Perhaps i have gotten used to the BC2 sized maps and put everything out of perspective.  I know cod gets knocked for being another DLC per annum, but there quite a big jump in graphics between 1-2. its quite remarkable actually.  Saying that there were a lot of blocky, dusty maps in mw1. Bloc still looks nice.
