Alot of the problems people are having connecting, being unable to connect to certain friends or joining a party are being caused by black ops recognising them as nat type strict. You can check which nat type black ops sees you as by going on multiplayer>options and pressing select

This method changes what black ops sees your connection as, until such time as they patch it.

Ideally your ps3 should be in DMZ to play cod games, a couple of guides for doing this are below

If you're in DMZ already you can skip the above guides, now your nat type should be 2 on a ps3 connection test and it 'should' be open on black ops, but for alot of people it still says strict

this is how you get black ops to recognise you as open:

1. Load up modern warfare 2 and go to the multiplayer screen where you see your nat type which it should say is open.

2. Press eject on your ps3 so the game ends and goes to ps3 main screen and take out modern warfare 2 and put in black ops and load up the game. Do not turn off or reset your ps3 after ejecting modern warfare 2.

3. If you check your nat in black ops now in the multiplayer options screen it should stay open and you should now be able to connect to friends unhindered

Now you'll be glad you didn't trade in mw2. you could also try the same principle with other cod games if you don't have mw2 and report back here for others

So far when i've tried this i just have to do it once when i turn on the ps3 then i can quit & restart the game and nat type remains open in black ops

I might give it a go with CoD:4 and see if works.

EDIT: Matchmaking errors on CoD4 so I can't even get online on that to test lol.

I just tried it with MW2 but it wouldnt go past "connecting to matchmaking servers". I guess now its literally broken

Cant get on to mw2 servers either to check, i presume its linked with the maintenance going on atm

This method defo helped me where the patch did nothing. Also its stayed open the next day, so i haven't had to put mw2 in again.

Hi, I have this error and have tried absolutely everything, apart from the MW2 fix, as I sold it before Black Ops.  I'm currently waiting for a copy of MW2 from my brother but as he will want his game back and I'll need to be able to turn my PS3 off (for obvious reasons); I was just wondering, since you've tried the fix, has the issue ever reoccured so that you had to do it again?

Mine has been working great for a couple of days since the mw2 fix & i've turned my ps3 off & on and its still been nat open

I'd guess the fix might be reset if you reset your router but haven't tried it...just don't do that
