i had the same problem, it turned out my blue ray was on its last legs, ended up getting a new laser and it now works fine, maybe yours is going aswell,

Yeah I did read it might be the lazer going, but it behaves exactly the same way in my brothers PS3 too and that is hardly used. Could be both are going but I hope not!

Anyway the one bonus is he has said I can have his PS3 as he never uses it! result no more having to hope the missus falls asleep so I can play games.

Any suggestion on a good method to clean the lens as it won't recognise a cleaning disc when I put one in?

Not sure if this will help, or if it's an urban myth, but I did hear somewhere along the way that removing CoD Elite from the PS3 may help to resolve some "disc read error" problems with MW3. Do you have Elite installed on your PS3? If yes, can you remove it and see if it makes a difference?

Yes tried that one and didn't work for me.

The seems to be a suggestion that the first batch of disc were dodgy, but given we are what, 6 months on now? I'd be surprised, but who knows!
