put cod 4 in ps3 shows the word call of duty with modern warfare underneath stops there with option of confirm yes or no but no button on controller does anything the only thing i can do is quit game this restarts ps3????????????????????

I have exactly the same problem, contacted activision....

told me to delete game data 

reinsert disc to get update

update

then it still didnt work

they told me to contact sony but i still have no answer.

Please let me know if you have come across this before or have a solution????

is the disc scratched by any chance ??

Seems to only happen when you're online, so turn off the router, start up the game, enter multiplayer then switch the router back on and sign-in.

I'm guessing it has something to do with FW4.0.

I don't get to the start up screen so I can't see that it is a online problem.

Have you tried starting the game with the router turned off?

I have phoned sony technical today they say I've got to try to delete game data saying that the files could be corrupt but I've thought I'd done that ,anyway trying that later then if that don't work got to do the big hard disk clean up could take 4/6 hours though other than buying a new console i'm going to try this its on the safe start mode screen very bottom hope this works for me and you.

yes no router still not get to start up screen disc works on another console in the same house.

I had this problem over the weekend.  For single player ... Go to the internet connection under settings and switch to disable.  This will get you in.  If you want to play online, I don't think this will work because to forces a reboot of the PS3 so use the router option  ... disconnect the router and then reconnect.
