Retailer to immediately shut 16 stores; remaining outlets to close in coming weeks.

After a protracted struggle to stay afloat, GAME Australia has finally succumbed to its financial troubles. The company's administrators--PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC)--have confirmed today that all GAME stores in Australia will close down in the coming weeks.  

PwC said 16 stores will shut immediately, with the remaining 15 to be shuttered in the coming weeks.  

"In the interests of creditors, the 31 remaining Game stores are to be closed over the coming weeks and a final closing down sale has commenced with discounts of up to 60 percent available in-store and online," administrator Kate Warwick said in a statement.

If game shops didn't rip people off, they might get some customers 

Oh well, no great loss

When the new light bulb (carbon) tax comes in to play next month i say a few more shops will find it harder as well to stay open.

I just found out today that my local (Forster, NSW), Retra Vision and D!ck Smith are having closing down sales.....cuz they're um, closing down.

Tricky D!ckies is always good for electrical components, means I'll have to drive 40km's to Taree now

They're closing quite a few of the D!ck Smith stores.. I was given a tip from my manager to get into the local one here as they are closing within weeks, and are having a 'massive sale'. I was a little disappointed to see that 15% off selected items constitutes a massive sale . They really are closing though, they were taking offers on the shelving and everything, just not the stock...
