Re: It's about time for a new TV

I wont go plasma again, they look good, but because of the way my lounge is, the glare from the glass is too much :smileysad:

Re: It's about time for a new TV

The old Plasma TV's suffered badly from screen burn in, but the new ones have pretty much fixed that.

It's not generally known, but it's in the first 200 hours of use that the newest Plasma TV's s are susceptible to screen burn in, it's because the screen is at it's brightest and still has some stability issues when brand new, after around 200 hours use the set stabilises and the likelihood of it happening is a lot less.

Here's a link on how you can make your new Plasma TV screen burn resistant.

Re: It's about time for a new TV

What Blackwiggle said.... I have had two big screen plasmas now in the last 6 years (still own both.. the 42 inch is now in the bedroom) and have never noticed any screen burn..... and we have done a LOT of gaming... plus have a frequent supply of 18-20 year olds in the house...

I still rate the plasma picture as better for natural TV sources... the blacks are better, and the motion handling is better. I think there are a lot of marketing misconceptions out there that LCD is far superior... These same misconceptions often come from sources that treat LED backlit TVs as 'LED's, and 720p as some sub HD res..

Amen!

When I bought my Fujitsu 42" Plasma back in 2005 I spent the first 300 or so hours with the set on a low contrast setting and played no consoles on it for the duration. Never had any problems with it and I still have that set downstairs as the main one, picture is still awesome (despite only being SD).

I always liken it to the fact you wouldn't buy a brand new car then thrash it like you stole it and expect the engine to last.

My old KDL32D3100 is being picked up tonight, sold that for $250. Adious Amigo, we had many good times.

[ Edited ]

Last Xmas I took my PS3 to my brothers place in Sydney so I could check out how my PS3 goes playing 3D games and movies on my brothers 55" Sammy 3D LED LCD, and what can I say except awesome !!!

Now I've decided to purchase one of THESE Samsung 40" 3D LED LCD from Bing Lee, comes with 2 3D glasses also.....I'll see if I can haggle them down to $900, which from past experiences with my washing machine (ticket price $599, paid $530) and current 40" Sammy Full HD LCD (ticket price $1200, paid $1100) it certainly isn't out of the question

Geez they're cheap these days :smileyhappy:

I'm also tempted to get a remote control helicopter after muckin' around with my brothers one :smileytongue:

After clicking on the "negotiate a deal" in the link i posted above, I talked to someone on the phone, and they said $925 straight out, plus the $40.87 standard delivery to my place.........cool I thought

I then went down to my local Betta Electrical, told "old mate the Bing Lee price, he was a bit shocked, but had a look on the computer and said he'll do it for $925 also. When I asked about delivery he said "free" .........so sweet as

They didn't have any in stock, but they ordered a few the other day anyway, so I'll have to wait till Wed, Thurs to enjoy some 3D gaming

So I'm very happy with that :smileyhappy:

Well....

I did an even betta deal (pun intended)

After I spoke to old mate at Betta Electrical I did a bit more "homework" and found THIS price, so again I went back down to see old mate at Betta Electrical and told him that, he said he can only go as low as $900 free delivery ($25 to my place from that link) so......me being the inpatient type that I am said hell yeah that'll do and I bought it straight it away

Takes a bit of getting used to this 3D gaming, but it's awesome :smileyhappy:
