PlayStation Community and You - Your Experiences

How did you become a part of the PlayStation Community, why do you enjoy this place so much?

I first joined these forums when I received a PS3... I signed up, to ask a few questions... not expecting much, just expecting to see a forum much the same as the thousands upon thousands of other forums...

But over time, I got to know these fantastic people, who are the primary reason why I kept coming here. This place is like one of those BBQ parties you have during the Christmas holidays with mates - different people come and go, tell stories and joke around, help each other out and put each other down.. lol.

This place is the reason I know people like skf, redute, kiwiatlarge, my fellow BTG clan members, just to name a few... Basically I just wanted to share how much I valued this place in it's prime. Lately it's been not that great, but without the PSF, I wouldn't have made so many great friends.

For some reason, I just wanted to make that known... What about you guys?

I joined when I got beta status. Pretty chilled around here. Have only really started posting with more frequency lately though.

I joined when I was doing my research on the PS3 before I bought one. Was on the previous forums, lurked for a long time.

Then one day smelck made a thread about lurkers trying to get us to post, lo and behold I did post something, which is completly not like me, but I havnt regretted it once, thanks smelck, your a legend  :smileyvery-happy:

After that thread I still didn't post too much, but one day the forums changed and I decided to make myself post more and become a bigger part of the communtity.

Now, I have made heaps of good mates (I think), and try to help out people that remind me of what I was like when I signed up :smileyhappy:

I first used to lurk many years ago when I registered my PS2 to an account which I still to this day have no idea what the account details are... a few months before I bought my PS3 I registered this account, and started participating on the old forums.

Back then the LNT was in full swing with Feral n co.. (actually I think the WLT may have still been in existance) there was a pretty heavy online community with the online guys... there was still a sniff of the fallout of the Socommers vs Lounge Room around too.. so I guess some of my early memories are:

-getting into the pre-DMC4 spirit with Silver, STJ and Jamar, and getting to know them (anyone remember the 'Demon Slayers? :smileytongue: ) ... only I think to all be a little dissapointed with the end result.... (actually, disappointment would be an understatement for STJ :smileytongue: )

-lots of e-battles involving usually a combination of Silver, STJ and myself, and in the other corner Nickerz and sometimes War or one of the other online guys... (all started in good fun, but in hindsight it probably went too far at times)

-The MVPs and some interesting evenings in either the LNT or a thread involving a couple of the many alt socommer accounts... (I hate to think how many sexius and timmy had banned, lol)

-Watching Pretoria, Riker and TMJ skim reading through the LNT (it was like Playstation Support had a 'LNT roster'), because on the old forums you could see who was viewing or posting in a thread

-About once a month having a 'hot topic' where 35 odd people would be viewing the thread refreshing it... The GTAIV players are immoral thread springs to mind

-My personal clash with some guy who was banned and never heard of again... Funnily enough because I defended Stuit's viewpoints.... and the guy just went crazily feral... He thought he was playing me like a fool and setting a trap for me to play into, but he was just really wierd and I think a little crazy..

-Stuit being Stuit and his Steve Irwin sig (and then later the Golden Spatula sig)

-sharing Arnie lols with tjohn

-getting to know Smelck inside and outside of the PSF boundaries

-getting to meet Agunzi in person

-getting to know Whitey the lurker, and then giving him a hand to administer and setup the final stages of clan forums... stemming largely I think from a stats thread here, where at the time I had the highest individual post count of anyone on the new forums, but Whitey had more thread views and min online than me, but only about 100 posts..

I'm sure there are lots more old day memories... :smileyhappy: and many other people I could mention specific memories of...

ahhhh..such a great feature and (although I harp on about it) the most missed feature on this new site......then it was like walking into a pub and knowing who was there, while today you have no idea who's about or where they are so you can join the topic.........

Some of those hot-topic free for alls were great.....and it's a shame because we don't have half as many of them these days :smileysad:

This is a great idea for a topic, too bad I am gonna have to remove it because of SKF....

Seriously now tho, I have been on the PlayStation forums for a very long time,  never regreting the time or effort put in at any stage.

The LNT, Romance thread (all versions) did take up alot of our nights including general skim reading, editing, removing of posts & sending warnings to people.
Being on the forums is a very minimal part of my role but it is definately one of the most enjoyable, being able to share a joke with a lot of you & be approached by you if you are having issues or questions about anything PlayStation or sometimes Non PlayStation related. Through the forums, I now have a few of you on my FB & MSN as well

I am always approachable & you can rest assure, I will always be watching...

Edit, due to the exact thing Smelk is talkin about, if you do have suggestions about making the forums better, please PM myself & I will try put through a formal doc to see what we can do if lithium have the availability to add zed features...

Re: PlayStation Community and You - Your Experiences

I first joined in early '07 before the PS3 release. I can't remember exactly why but I was looking to find out something or other about the PS3 before I went ahead and got one. In the early days I only made the odd post here & there but I've got some strong memories about the early forum days, especially the heated arguments Stuit started and STJ getting super stoked about Uncharted.

I can still remember the very first thread I started on the forums. It was right after I'd set up my PS3 with a surround sound setup (the first time I'd done anything like that for a console) and I basically wanted to come on here and talk about how awesome it was compared to playing games in stereo.

The first time I really got involved in the community though was browsing the Resistance: FoM forums and adding folks from here to have some online games. There's been a bunch of great community events and competitions I've jumped in on since then but the Killzone 2 games are still the most fun I've had online on my PS3. The folks on here love a good game but everyone keeps it friendly and fun is always the number 1 priority which is what keeps me coming back.

I guess the only time I've really lurked was reading the F1 league that Jester used to run I think. It sounded like great fun and now I've got my G27 I'm looking forward to a new one when they finally get the new game out the door.

Re: PlayStation Community and You - Your Experiences

[ Edited ]

I came to the forums to find like minded people......other PS3 gamers, and i've had a great time.

I got off to a bad start.... I remember having a go at a couple of regulars:smileyhappy: but not only was i new to forums, i was new to computers. I had never really used a PC (being old skool and all) and i had great difficulties posting pictures and links, but i learnt all that on here with the help of a couple of forumers :smileyhappy:

So although i'm having a break from gaming for a while, due to the "mid life crisis" i'm going through:smileysad: I will still be posting and hanging out around here, cuz i love the place and the majority of peeps........and my friends my friends of course :Music:
